Laanecoorie tips?
Thinking about heading to Laanecoorie (for the name if nothing else) Sunday arvo and detecting mon/Tuesday. Have a new (well, 2nd hand) Coiltek 14" DD Pro I want to christen. Will probably stay at the caravan park as I've seen it recommended a few times here- anybody got any general tips? Settings? (I have a 3000). Old areas that might have a few scraps left for a newbie like me? Yes I am still a virgin.

Kilter mate. What happened to the trenching! Not as easy as it sounds ah, or we were just born 150+ years to late?
Good luck with your 3000.
Cheers
Chris.

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
Sounds too much like hard work! Anyway, have a bit of time on my hands so can afford to travel the 5 hours to the triangle. I'll get back to the creeks in Gippsland and high country later. The consensus is you can't detect around Dargo/ Grant/ Crooked river- right?

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
Oh. I was just referring to the amount of vegetation. Is it off limits there?

Vegemite, his mate probably will. I'm no conservationist, my glasses are really dirty, who said that?

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
g,day mate
its been damn hot around the triangle so make sure you go out with plenty of water.
if you don`t have the John Tully books of maps i suggest get them , they are a terrific reference point to start. i`ve got them and i look at them all the time.
then its just a matter of picking a spot and going low and slow. a few years ago i got at Tarnagulla a 5 grammer using a 3000 and a coiltek 14" dd pro. there is still gold all through that area but unfortunatley there is a lot of dirt (and in places rubbish) mixed in with it.
best of luck
cheers dave

Hi Kilter
Settings for your 3000
Boost Normal or Deep Threshold Just on Mozzie hum Signal 2 Oclock Volume 2 oclock Tone to suit your ears
All Metal Level Adjust 12 oclock Soil normal or sensitive Coil DD Balance Fixed.
To get the best out of a 3000 dont max the dials out.If you can run fixed and regroundbalance often. If you find that you cant keep it quiet run in tracking and when you hear a signal.Regroundbalance off the target to fixed then go over it again. The ground is dry at the moment so its ideal for detecting.
Cheers Dig

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
You can legally access some areas above dargo, but there is a problem with basalt rocks, they sound similar to metal when detecting, some of the gullies and creeks are a nightmare to work.

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
Thanks guys. Had a morning at Maryborough the other day on the way back from holiday in SA- was hot alright! I also stuffed up with the signal setting- having it around 4 O'clock- will make sure it's around 2. I'm thinking Waanyara... Will see if can get those maps- shooting blind otherwise!
Cheers!

Re: Laanecoorie tips?
Hmm. Not sure if I'm gonna make it now, but soon! Ive got 2 American exchange student teachers just arrived and staying with me. I thought I'd just leave them to it for a couple of days before term starts but they don't have a car and somebody's gotta take em to the beach and stuff... You know, about 22, female, American... Sigh. Hard job but somebody's gotta do it.
