Re: what a great 2hrs
thanks mate, it's good to see there's still good gold to be found it just takes time and a bit off work to find it, but once you hit it, it can pay off. if it wasn't hunting for the smaller ones and listening to evry little signal i don't think i would have found some off the last few nuggets.

G'Day Stoppsy,
Excellent piece and at good depth, shows your obvious skill with a detector and as operator.
In your experience in an open area of known small pieces of gold would your use the 8 inch or 11inch based on advantages/disadvantages? In highly minerilsed ground.
I am keen to pick ya brain and anyone elses based on your high knowledge.
Cheers.

Re: what a great 2hrs
hey crack-hardy, if using the 45 i would go the 11" for a start as you'll pick up small gold with it as well, the best way is to FP the hole detector and see how it performs. if running well start playing around with the settings. the problem with the 8" in noisy ground you'll pick up a lot more hot rocks, but i have had the 8" running realy well in hot grounds with the 4 and the 45 just takes a lot off playing around. i have been showen a lot and if it wasn't from these people i don't know if i would be where i am now with my detecting now.

Well done Stoppsy
Very different to the gold you have been finding, even the smaller pieces you found the other day are more nuggety, ie more rounded and chunky.
I guess you have moved to another spot.
Well deserved and I hope you continue to find heaps more.
Cheers Mark

Re: what a great 2hrs
thanks guys, i have moved to another area as i was checking this spot for a few months and it got the better off me. the bigger coils are better for the open areas and the smaller ones for the real shrubby spots, i think evey coil has it's spots you just have figger out wich one suits what area.

Hi Stoppsy,
Well done mate it's so good to see you getting bigger gold, I new you had it in you.
What do you think is the key to you success as you were the king of small gold
Is it the 4500
Is it the area
Is it the coil selection
Is it the location
is it the night detecting
Something has changed your style, love to know what you think
Pete

Re: what a great 2hrs
Hi Stoppsy
Thats awesome mate, I knew it would come very soon after seeing those last couple you got well done mate, were these nuggets on the very bottom or is there more depth? I think there will be many more to come from this spot deeper and big too this area is going to keep you very busy for a while, check every inch of it a couple of times, I know I'm telling you stuff you already know but it doesn't hurt to hear it again, put the big coil on and give it a good test now you know there is some bigger bits around.
cheers
Lee

Re: what a great 2hrs
Brilliant ! You are certainly on a roll , Bigger to come I am sure. You really had mastered the small gold/small coil now with a mind set change/new detector you are into the bigger stuff. Thats what i like about detecting, You are allways learning and getting rewarded on the way !

Re: what a great 2hrs
Great to see you get multi-grammer stoppsy, well done
4500 with a big coil ( 16" and 18" ) has been my favourite weapon for the bigger stuff for quite some time and for good reasons too, hope it works for you too.
I call my 11" the small coil, good for the cleanup but it does suprise me sometimes on the depth it gets.

Re: what a great 2hrs
thanks guys, i think the hole thing mate as i seen all this big gold and thought to my self well time to change what i'm doing. i know i have a great detector so why not use it the way it should. i was checking this area for a long time and just new there had to be gold on it, and since i have a good selection off coils i just use mostof them in different spots that suits.l. when the weather gets to hot for detecting i'm going to be doing the night runs for sure...mariner3800 wrote:Hi Stoppsy,
