Welcome Bernard
Pack everythink you will need, and you will still have forgotten something.
Don’t forget the Aerogard there are mosquitoes the size of magpies around at the moment.

Hi Bernard,

If the only thing you pack is your DETECTOR all else really dont matter, good luck and welcome to the crazy world of prospecting.

A pick will help if you find some thing to dig up.

G'day Lone Wolf ... nice ta meet ya! Remember the mobile phone ... so you can ring me to come help dig out that BIG nugget Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Just joking (not!) I treat my detecting trips just the same as I would any holiday/vacation. Pack what you think you might need ... get half way there and start remembering all the things you left behind ... but never panic! Detector, pick, water, phone/etrack, fly spray/wipe, full charge batteries for everything. And don't forget to let someone know where you are going (sort of), and either arrange to make contact regularly or give an expected return date/begin to panic date affraid

Then go have fun and enjoy the whole experience of the bush ... that is really what is important about our hobby!

Carry water from home or buy it, unless you have a special filter machine. Just my experience over the years as the body tends to find different water disagreeable. If nothing else ensure you boil and cool to drink straight. Just my two bobs worth, regards Phil pirat

Gumboots and maps, both make a good fire to attract helicopters if you get lost. (jk)
seriously though, a simple gold pan and shovel and your on your way, till you run out of water at least. Something small like a 10-14 inch is better on your arm and wrist if your just starting out and you can move a fair bit of dirt with one. If your off detecting, get the best detector you can afford that suits your needs or hire one to test them out first. And same, i take the absolute minimum i have to carry, sensible clothing and basic tools
