Great day out with GullyHunter and TheGoldenChild
Navigator....Manny TheGoldenChild,
Chief Geologist....GullyHunter
Tagalong....Me
Weather was absolutely great last Saturday. A little tired after getting up at 3.30am to get ready to take off at 4.30am for a 3 hour drive via a slight detour. Well, I drove the car to wherever Manny said. He had a place in mind and I'd never been there before. I was just glad to get out for a swing. Rock up, park the car start to get the gear on and our young mate GullyHunter rocks up too. Upon seeing him, I now know that some colour will be seen this day. The guys start talking about reefs and direction of north and ironstone and quartz etc etc etc and the most I can do is look at the time and sort of guess where north is.
Nevertheless, we all head out in different directions and within seconds I get a signal. Four minutes later I dig up my first of many 100's of bits of rubbish for the day. After about the 5th rusty nail, I crank up the discriminator on the old 2200d to max. That probably saved me digging a few holes throughout the day, but fair dinkum, I dug well over 100 targets anyway that were bits of rust even with the descriminator on full.
About 30 minutes into the day, I get this loud screaming through the speakers. LOUD but destinct and not a trace of break up through the discriminator. I had dug up a bit of junk 15 seconds earlier and had travelled maybe 2 meters at most, so I wasn't holding my breath, but it was a sweet signal. I started to dig, dig a little more, scrape some more, then dig a little more and then popped out this rusty looking blob. I looked at it and thought to myself, damn another bit of junk, and then I saw a tiny speck of yellow in the middle. Well I stuck it in my mouth and swirled it around and then spat it in my hand and there was this sort of ugly, and yet so beautiful piece of gold. Not huge, but the biggest I'd ever found. Word of warning, clean whatever you're going to stick in your mouth pretty well before it goes into your mouth...I was spitting muddy dirt for the next 5 minutes afterwards.
Unfortuneatly I've got plenty of vids of rusty nails, but the one that mattered didn't quite get onto the camera. Pity...
Many thanks to Manny (TGC) for "Research and Study"
Many thanks to Glen (GH) for his Geological expertise & ability to read the ground, &
Many thanks to Mother Nature for making this little beautiful piece of gold.

Sweet effort Costas,
Working in amongst all the junk pays off for those that have that `Never say die` attitude.
Well done mate

Re: Great day out with GullyHunter and TheGoldenChild
Thanks for your kind words guys. It's always great to find a piece of gold that has been there for 1000's of years and for you to be the first to find it. It's great no matter what size it is, but it's always a bonus if it's a little bit bigger than the norm of today. Anyway with Xmas duties and the weather heating up now, I recon the detector wont see too much more action until the heat of summer eases off a little, towards the end of March next year. Maybe I might get a couple more days in if I'm lucky, and if I'm even luckier might find a little friend for this little nugget...
