Ahhhh Them Where The Days....
I do have to say but, i miss the good old days prospecting in vic & sth australia, just load up the car, drive to a spot, and
let her rip... to flamin easy..
Of course i'm talking about the box ironbark forrests where you didnt need permission or a gun, you could
camp there and find gold
Tarnagulla was one of my favourite areas, so was castlemaine and beaufort and wedderburn/witchitella,
it was just to flamin easy back then, now days ive got lease permissions,20A's,forms,GPS data,Tengraph
Mindex,Wamex,600klm minimum drive, and mad bush s (inc me)
Oh yeah! them where the days.
But you know what ??
I wouldnt trade any of my past and current prospecting life for quids
The lovely bush, the great folks we get to meet, and just roaming around with a detector
without any fascist millitary junta asking at the point of a tommy gun - "papers" .
Long live the Prospector
Long live APLA & PMAV

Lets face it, there aint nothing wrong with taking a walk
with pick n paper in hand either, feels natural..

Re: Ahhhh Them Where The Days....
G'day Pete.
Just the smell of the forest, the variety of wildlife and the isolation away from the rat race, heavenly splendor I call it Pete. There are Nations that would give an arm and a leg to have what we've got here, that's why we should never take anything for granted in life.Bare bu**ed we were born and and bare bu**ed we're destined to leave this world of ours, taking only the memories with us,until we're just a memory ourselves. So many times I've heard people saying,ah where am i going to go,whats there to see and do out there, waste of my time,to the point where they convince themselves to no adventure at all.I say what a waste of existence. Is not the thrill of adventure, life in itself? So lets all concentrate on doing and getting the best we can out of life, for time waits for no one and the saying can't be any truer "People won't understand what they've got until they've lost it".
Cheers kon61.

How blessed we are to live in this lucky country, the freedom we enjoy.I know not all agree but in some ways we must be responsible for the life we make.

Well you had all better make the most of it. I heard in Europe they are thinking of digging up Hitler and letting him loose again in a different form. So watch out folks.

I have only been detecting for a shade under 10 years,so I have to compare your comments to old fishing spots. Back `in tha day` the fish were always bigger, fatter and there were stacks of them
I reckon gold spots could be the same......
Still,I never leap out of my bed at home the same way I do out of my swag, feeling fit enough to tackle a Roo or two,no matter how many deep holes I had dug the day before

Re: Ahhhh Them Where The Days....
Bringing back memories Pete, Tarnagulla, Dunolly etc, in a time when it was peaceful out bush, no rules ( errr maybe just a few ) plenty of gold and genuine prospectors.
Made me dig up an old photo of me out in the bush with my trusty GT16000. Must have been in my early twentys, long time ago. I'm pretty sure it was taken in Dunolly, Sydenham track, of course you wouldn't recognise it know after 20 odd years of hammering. Even the snakes were nicer then, hence no need for Gaitors .

G'day ARARAT
I could tell you what was a hell lot more responsive back then but this is a public forum
So it was you who raided my patch all that time ago . Bet you got those from the surfacing out that way
But you didn't get it all, sorry to disappoint you but I got a 15.5 grammer there late last year .
You must have missed that one.

I went for a drive on the weekend and in less than an hour from where I live I was suddenly sitting in the middle of a rain forest on the top of a mountain up at Jollys lookout on one of the tourist trails with only the bellbirds keeping me company. It was great being in amongst nature in all its splendour.
Then a group of teenages came running past on the tourist track with their ipods on, gameboys in hand and began making a general nuiscance of themselves, they really just dont get it.
So I left them to it and went for a 1.5 km trek through the rainforest off the tourist track instead where they wouldnt fear to tread for fear of getting their designer sandshoes dirty.

Tony Mills reckons he and some mates found half a bucket of the bl@#dy things.
The museum is well worth a visit just to see the gun and rifle collection.
Even better if you can catch Stephen Barnham on duty there. He has written several
excellent instructional manuals about detecting and panning. He is also PMAV's historian.
