Turon Gold
Hello fellow gold tragics.
I have just found this site & signed up immediately. I am looking forward to reading all of your posts.
We (my hubby & I) have just returned from a week on the Turon River at Coles bridge crossing. We actually only worked for 4 1/2 days as we had some visiting & other things to do as well.
It was our first visit to the area together fossicking. My hubby was born in Bathurst & he fossicked all around the area as a youngster with his Grandfather.
We got 8 grams of hard won gold using our bank concentrator with a river sluice to carry the water away. Flaky flat pieces with a lot of small stuff included. Not as much as we were expecting but very nice all the same. It was big gold compared to the stuff we get on the Shoalhaven at Oallen which I describe as "flypoo size".
Lots of snakes!! Anyone who is in the area be very careful. 4 blacks 2 browns. Beautiful weather but we just got out in time as the rain came the morning we left. We are off to Tuena next week.
Happy prospecting

Re: Turon Gold
Hi franma.
I also got good gold from the Turon and there would be many, many ounces left.
If you are going down to Tuena, just before the bridge out of Trunkey crk. there is a road off to the right signed Curragh rd.
Go down there to where it flattens out and you will see a track off to the right. About 200?m. you come to a steel bridge over the creek (locally known as the "iron bridge")
Up and downstream from there you will always find good gold, a bit further downstream a mate and myself sluiced full time in the '80's for around 4 ounces/week.
Of course some of that ended over the bar of the "Black Stump"!
The Rocky Bridge crk. off the Blayney road will also give you some good gold.
Good luck with it all.

Thanks for the advice Mike. We'll have a look next week hopefully.
It is always good to come home with at least 8 grams Ninja. It soon adds up.

Re: Turon Gold
Thanks Dicko. We usually spend our time at Oallen & average 1 1/2 - 2 grams a day out there. Its always small but fairly easy to work. We used to always go to Tuena but Oallen is closer to home. Tuena has a better chance of finding a bigger bit so we are going back there to give it another go.
A few years ago we worked a patch on Tuena Creek & got about 3 ozs. It was all claybound so we used an old (square) heating oil drum with a seive. Bob dug & I hosed the clay with a high pressure hose. It was a great system & worked really well.
Cheers

Re: Turon Gold
Thank you to all you experienced posters for your advice on how to post my pictures I have finally been able to post one. A pic of some Turon River gold. A nice little circle. I have put it up for my Avatar. I received a message saying as a newcomer I can't post pics for a week. That is fine. I will sort some out & post them when we come home from Tuena.
Happy gold hunting

Re: Turon Gold
CowraLass, I doubt you will get a reply as the original post is now 11 years old.
I googled Trunkey Creek and found Curragh Rd. so if you are near the area or passing through then I suggest you drive down that track and follow the directions as best you can. You should at least locate the flat area they are talking about.
Regards Axtyr.
