Hi
I'm Rob & am very new to metal detecting.
I'm going to a place tomorrow which I found last week & arent sure on how to tackle the area.
The area is 2 side by side Gullys with an exposed quartz reef on the high ground between the 2 Gullys. Within 50 meters of the quartz reef I also noticed a wall of rocks which has been pushed upward by years of ground movement, & I also found a rock which give off a signal but had nothing in it, I think it was iron ore.
Can you please advise me if there is a better area I should detect e.g: Bottom of the Gully, along its slope, the quartz reef etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Rob

Hi Rob and welcome to the game of "Striking it Rich".
I wouldn't walk away from it, walk the area and see what else you find.
cheers

Thanks Bullet
I definately wont walk away, I'm wondering the the area has a better place to start. is gold usually found in the bottom of a Gully, along its slope, with the quartz?

Ha
Last time we went to the area we got a load of spent cartridges, bullets, small marble sized bits of what I think is iron & what I think is a belt buckle or something similar.
At 1 point I was in the middle of the bush surrounded by trees & animal droppings & found a nail (amazing).
As much as its rubbish it leaves me with the kind thought that nobodys been there recently.

Re: Gold & Gullys - New Member
are there any signs of an old camp in the area. Like lots of rubbish, rusty tins and broken bottles ? It's always a sign and just maybe worth putting in some effort.

We didnt find any broken bottles, but were coming across old tin cans (or bits of) which were very rusted.

Because I'm new I want to swing the detector slowly & dig every noise.
Thanks
