Re: Are these Leadshot - Ophir
Thanks guy's I'm over digging the little b@$tards I tell ya what lol, but I've only had my 5k for a week and I'm yet to find any color at all. I've got a trash bag full of bullets, shell cases and these buggers!
So as you could imagine I'm rather keen to did every thing.
I was told gold sounds like led with the detector is that right?
Thanks again for filling me guy's!
Cheers Hoff

Re: Are these Leadshot - Ophir
Thanks heeps Goldstalker I'm doing my best I tell ya, but today after digging a heep of these things, I got a realy good signal under a massive old gumtree stump, hour later it was two good signals then a signal next to the massive hole I was digging but I couldn't pin point anything so I figured it was ground noise and kicked it back in but I just don't know! I just sat back and wished I had a old hand at it with me that knows the area to run his detector over it and tell me if I'm hearing things or not I'm just so green at this hole caper!

Re: Are these Leadshot - Ophir
Ok guy's one last thing for today, if I'm doing all my prospecting within Ophir reserve and to my knolage Ophir has had a major working over with detector in the last 30years? And if lead sounds the same as a nugget why is it I'm digging all these targets for the first time? Because some have been down a good 10" in hard earth! This realy gets my hopes up of finding something out there if the ground where I found thes has not had a great deal of attention!!
Cheers for all the help again Hoff

Re: Are these Leadshot - Ophir
G'day Hoff
I hear ya m8, you have to wonder how alright.
My theory is that over the years the bigger coils and older machines have taken the bigger easier to hear bits, whether they be gold or lead, cause they do sound about the same, and these small "BB" shot lead pellets remain. You have gotta remember that the latter model GPX detectors are designed to find very small pieces of non ferous metal and they do this very well.
All you can do is keep at it, if you are in an area where gold has been found with a metal detector in the past you are just looking for what everyone else has missed, or overlooked and dissmised as ground noise etc.
cheers dave

Thanks heep's Dave,
I'm going to head back out today and have another crack!
Hopefully this time I'll have a bit of the yellow stuff to show my lead shot collection off with, lol
Cheers for all your help Hoff

The detector will pick up Coal or burnt wood under ground. Try balancing near it then go over it agian, if the signal moves it is coal. Don't bother diggin it.
swing the detector low and slow.

Re: Are these Leadshot - Ophir
Thanks Jamie I'll use that trick.
I went out to Ophir again yesterday trying to keep my conference up, so I put in a massive day way out the back of the reserve all for 25 bits of lead shot two musket ball sized bits of lead and a larger bit about the size of a bottle top, Lead lead lead that's all I find and it's getting old now! So I'm heading up the Cudgegong in the old tinny to find a new spot next, no more Ophir, not till lead hits $500 a oz anyway lol!!!
