Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
Ok so with all these answers everyone would like to see, here it is in chronological order.
1. A flat screen tv with satellite, DVR, and DVD attachment.
2. A cell phone, radio, short wave radio and gps built into one.
3. A toilet paper dispensor for those outback adventures.
4. A removable digital camera
5. A battery compartment, with enough jumpercables to jump your vehicle if you had to.
6. 6X9 speakers attached for sound.
7. A camelback water reservoir, at least a gallon, as we do drink a lot of stuff in the field.
How is that for starters???

I have a few, but at the moment I would like a Second switchable Coil connection, so a pin pointer probe can be plugged in directly to the box without the addition of noisy , lossy external aids.....

More Affordable Price
Tuned to go deeper, more affordable price so I can buy one and throw in a gold pan because if it's made more sensitive to smaller and smaller pieces you'll need a pan to sort it from the soil because you'll never see it otherwise.

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
maybe they should consider a new model replacing the sd-gp-gpx series,
give it a name instead of a code and number, liked the old deepseeker,
gold striker etc., why not go back to something a bit more identifiable?
follow up models could be called MKII etc. Technology should do significant
(rather than micro) steps foward and the top of the line detectors should remain as such for
the coming 3 to 5 years. Save's us changing detectors every 18 months, but we could have software
upgrades every year or so for a fee. In the long term this business model would probably be more
lucrative for ML as well, as they do not have to make the effort to bring out another model every so
often, and all that goes with it. Instead they could focus on maximising that one top model that
everyone would want to have after enough good reports come in from the fields.
And on top of that it would put the excitement back into the hobby
Just my thoughts dear ML

new ML
Not had a lot of experience with detectors yet but saw this one in this forum somewhere and now cant find it. I think this will be the way detectors will go..
http://www.xpmetaldetectors.com/uk_index.php
anything that looks like the star ship enterprise has to be good.
Lot of inovative technology and no bloody leads and wires and if you look in the FAQs you will see they are thinking about what to do about under water detecting with it. ML should have a close look and start thinking.
Ok that will do me for teaching my grandmother to suck eggs
cheers

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
Depth perception should definitely be possible, I use sonar equipment at work and it works on similar principles and our software is able to identify the depth the target is at on the sea floor, so just saying.....

minelab
maybe minelab shouldn't worry about new machine just yet 5000 sounds like a gem , they should employ another tehnician to fix there coils . they have had my 11" commander for weeks as its touch sensitive and when l phoned to see if they had it ,there is only one technician fixing things. not good enough.

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
Price is somthing that should really be looked at, honestly 5-6k for a metal detector?? I understand minelab pi's are the best and I wouldn't use anything else but 5-6k.....and then we have to fork out for a decent bunji, control box cover and a pick before we hit the field... We all know that these machines are now manufactured in Malaysia (since the 4500) so why not pass on some of those savings to the customer.

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
hey guys, there is 1 new feature on the next gpx model i would like to see, an auto ground balance button that you just press and hold the coil just off the ground for a few seconds and it ground balance's its self! Pumping the coil up and down to get a g-balance very few meters becomes a bit of a pain in the ass when out detecting , does this sound like agreat idea ?

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
Hi goldenhorn, switch it into tracking and the constant movement of the coil should ground balance as you walk, no need to pump anymore, but saying that its not what i do, as far as the 6,000 is concerned how about minelab making their coils opptional thus reducing the price a few hundred $, and then i can use the $ i save to buy nugget finder coils Stu

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
snapper, there is a time and place to be in traking and fixed, and i do use both setting , what i getting at was when in fixed and you need to ground balance just hold the coil an inch of the ground push a button, give it a few seconds and ground balance complete !simple , no more pumping the coil up&down !

The only advancement that will justify me buying the next model is a timing equivilent to Normal or Sharp, that will enable the use of a large mono coil and thereby not lose the depth presently lost with settings such as Enhance.

Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
Fully adjustable delay time via digital display for all timings.....and preset settings as well. What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors?
For the newbies, a self help guide explaining the difference between low numbers and high numbers for this feature.
In fact, a self help guide for all functions in the main menu covering all things.
A small graph representing coil tuning and variable within safe working adjustment to fine tune the coil. Hmmm?....this function would basically be a liar....if the coil is out of whack electrically speaking....this function would only be lying to the control box...yet it sounds good...add it anyway.
However...it would keep coil manufactures in line with coil specs if they new we could test the coils ay wot.??
Also digital representation for thresh adjustment.
Spectrum analyzer for EMI tuning...something thats visible covering the full tuning range, so we can see the quieter area and simply adjust via decoder...no more 60sec auto tune. Use the auto tune button to bring up the display for this new function. Give it a user delay time or permanent "on" feature.
Its time the whole unit became fully waterproof.!! ...... some of the coils we use are now waterproof, why not catch up a little.??
Give it Bluetooth functionality so that i can mount my ipad on the side of my arm rest and make adjustments via the large touch screen...call it " SATS " Setting Adjustable Touch Screen. Or perhaps a small digital display similar to the old sovereign, but make it touchscreen. (optional)
Have this ready for me before i wake.
Re: What would people like added to new model Mine Lab detectors? (Asked by Miners Den Melb)
I'd like to see all timings and adjustments automatic, and one would have one adjustment for sensitivity. The idea being for a computer to analyze the ground and constantly adjust to get the deepest penetration in any soil type or situation, coil etc, then one would adjust sens to achieve an acceptable level of extraneous noise to target ratio.

Well if the new CTX3030 has the below options
Waterproof
Wireless Audio
FeCo Discrimination
GPS Locating
PC Mapping
Full Colour Display
Quick Menus
Ergonomic design
Multi Language
I think MINELAB would also include these options on the newest model designated as purely a gold detecting machine, and who is to say it even going to be called a GPX6000

Smoother and even more stable running threshold.Better ground balance stability.Free of EMI and most importantly, better ground penetration over highly mineralized soils Ohh and don't forget the inbuilt, self chilling, stubby holder.

Kon, you forgot the Cigar holder for when you find that retirement Nugget
I dont think Im too keen on a GPS feature....call me paranoid but if it recorded locations of finds, wouldnt the next owner of the detector be able to return to your spots?

a 'flogged patch' timing, that only gives a signal on targets that are
out of reach to previous detectors

I would like to see a new completely waterproof GPX5000 similar to look at as the CTX3030 with a collapsible stock and an SD card to upload ur favorite settings for different conditions and firmware upgradable. Dont need the GPS bul*s*it functions to plot on my computer but others might. Just my 2 bobs worth and I would have one in a flash.

Built in detector alarm clock
I would like to see a clock built in with an alarm function. So that when we all go out together we can set an alarm to go off in the detector audio to remind us that it is time to go back and meet up for morning tea or lunch etc.
Could also be a life saver if your wife has been sitting waiting for you to return while you are engrossed on looking for that last target.

Simple instructions showing prospectors how to pinpoint with supplied coil.
Nothing more boring watching YouTube and time wasted swinging coil over target, putting machine down, activating the pinpointer, only to go through the same process over and over again.
Listening to the target ring off using coil in the videos, on many occasions the pinpointer doesn't sound off and blind/deaf Freddy is yelling at screen "dig on RH side of hole"
