Re: When ya go camping out
Hey byronbinalong,
"She bought it!"
We have two types of money in our house. Her money is hers, my money is ours!
I bet I know which type of money bought your van...

Re: When ya go camping out
I hate towing stuff so I have an ARB rooftop tent. It takes less than 10 minutes to setup and about 15 minutes to pack up. I reckon it's more comfortable than a regular tent and because it's up off the ground you don't get any dust inside. The matress is really good and you can leave your sleeping bag etc. inside when you pack it up.
If I end up getting a quad bike down the track I'll make an enclosed trailer for the quad and put the tent on top.
If I ever find a really big nugget I'll buy a Mercedes Benz Unimog with a custom body on it. That's my dream setup.

Re: When ya go camping out
If you find this in the bush, you've found me !
Quite spacious, very comfortable, and a low profile when closed helps with the economy. Fridge, two burner stove, (external) shower, almost too much storage space both internal and external, weighs in at about 740 kgs. Being on a ute means no problems if you go down that tight track and have to U-turn, and, of course, it can be "slid-off", and you're left with a ute.
... pity the ute needed a $6000 chassis extension to cure the flexing and hence a dreadful forward-backward motion ..... but it rides well now.

This is our "home away from home", Trailstar Aquila 5.4M van.
We have traveled to many out of the way prospecting patches, got dirty outside but all the comforts within.

Re: When ya go camping out
Byronbinalong I have made up something that may help you in reguards to protecting the front of your van. I have a vinyl front padding that is proned to stone hits. You have an Ally front, and I was told that if a stone hits that the stone then can bounce back and could hit the back of your car or even go through your rear window. That was told to me by a caravan dealer. What I've made will stop that problem. Give me a couple of days and I'll rig it up on my van and take some photo's. Right now it's too bl##dy cold to go out side.
Cheers mate

Re: When ya go camping out
Hi byronbinalong, here are the photo's that I promist you of my home made stone guard. It was made out of Shade cloth, plastic covered curtain wire, small hooks that screw into the ends of the wire, "D" shaped hooks, and dog clips. My wife sewed pockets along the top and bottom of the shade cloth for the curtain wire to go through. You can see by the photo's how I attached it to the van, but your van my be different so you may have to work out how to attach yours, but the idea works well.
If you need more info just PM through my profile
