Hi

For the members from the east who havent seen the pit, here is a short vid showing the blast
from a hundred odd tonnes of explosive gear..

http://www.abc.net.au/local/videos/2011/01/17/3114411.htm?site=goldfields

Also if coming to WA why not call into the lookout at the pit and witness a blast
in the raw, here are the phone numbers to get the blasting times for each day

The public lookout is open 7.00am to 9.00pm daily and allows you to take a look at this enormous mining operation in action. Blasting occurs regularly and while advance notice is given where possible, for the most up to date information telephone the public inquiry line on 08 9022 1100 or contact the Kalgoorlie Goldfields Visitor Centre on (08) 9021 1966

What a Ripper ! Thanks for posting that Pete. On our first time west 3 years ago we dropped in & had a look, The Super Pit was much bigger than i had thought, Also i knew there was mining activity going on in the west but it blew me away how many minesite we went past in our trip around the Golden West. Heading over in early May to try our luck in finding some of that yella stuff.
Cheers
Ashley

Thanks Pete, Looking forward to getting amongst it. Never been a fan of our renowned Oysters so you can have my share, I can throw in a heap of squid ( calamari ) as i caught 39 over a couple of nights off the rocks in front of where i live.

Thanks Pete, that was great watching. Last year I arrived at Boulder 15 minutes after the earthquake. People told me they thought the Super Pit had caused it. Was this ever proved or disproved ?

Wait 20 to 25 years and see the size the new Boddington pit will become. Pretty sure they were going to call it the MEGA PIT but not sure whether that name ever stuck.

There is also a tour that you can do that goes inside the Superpit.
