traing day with Bendigo gold
Did the training day last weekend didnt get to many pointers on using the 5000 apart from basic detecting skills although i did learn about how important finding the correct tuning frequency is which i havent always paid to much attention to in the past. After saying that i was with a group of guys who had never had any detecting time previously. Our instructor had limited time to get these guys up to speed therefore my time was limited . Ran the 5000 in factory presets found 5 small pieces of gold which i was impressed with in the whipstick area of Bendigo. Still i feel that this detector has a lot more to offer. Ive booked in for the full day training will keep you posted Cheers Goinbush

Re: traing day with Bendigo gold
Thanks your post and feedback, I was given a voucher to go and do the training coarse with bendigo gold, I don't think I'll use it, it seems to me you may get more from the Minelab Training day, after I did the Minelab training day I have a lot of confidence in my machine.

Re: traing day with Bendigo gold
Hi Johnny, I did a training day with Gold Prospecting Australia ( GPA ) over Xmas, It was one on one as there were only 2 of us and GPA had 2 very qualified instructor so it was the best $120.00 I have ever spent.
What these guys don't know about the Minelab detectors is not worth knowing, they run a full fleet of 5000 for people who don't have one
I must say I have no affiliation with them, but have no problem in recommending them to anyone, quality organisations are hard to find these day
Just back from a weekend tag along with GPA, again great value, good tuition and wonderful people, met 3 other people from the forum there as well.

Re: traing day with Bendigo gold
Goinbush, Thanks for the update on your earlier questions on this topic. Bit of a shame that you did not get quite the attention that you were seeking, hopefully a better outcome from the full day session comming up, interested to hear your thoughts once that is completed.
At least you did learn something and you found some colour
Remember that factory presets are a good starting point and don't hesitate to make adjustments from there with your timimng selections, gain and stabiliser settings. You can't really make the machine dumber so have a play with it and if you feel that things are getting unstable or out of hand go back to factory settings and start over.
Make sure (especially if unfamiliar) you make notes of what adjustments you are making for reference to maybe help understand what or where you may/may not have gone wrong.
When I was learning my 4500 (my first detector also) I always had the manual in my pocket to reference to out in the field, I made notes in the back of the manual for quick reference to things I had found that worked and things that didn't work. I also printed off information that I had read from forums and websites to help me learn my machine and I can say that in doing this it vastly increased the rate at which I learned my machines behaviour.......and one never stops learning.
Best of luck. Cheers
