Hi,
I have only been detecting for 3 weeks. I was informed that the Bounty Hunter tracker IV was on of the best detectors (on a budget) for detecting coins.
Is this true?
Also, how far do they detect as it doesn't say in the book.
Thanks in advance.
Brian.

Hi Brian, If you're on a budget it's fine although it was designed for US users and, whilst it's been a short while since I used one, I seem to remember that the interface on the control box had references to nickels, dimes and quarters on it. I'd expect to get between 10 and 12 inches from it in depth in neutral soils from this machine. But at that price, the X-Terra 305 (which is still on special from Minelab) would be a FAR better machine for under the $395 mark (with better discrimination and many more features). The main dislike I had for the BH was that it took the relatively expensive 9 volt batteries that are far more costly than the AA batteries used by the X-Terras. Aside from that, it's an affordable machine.

Absolutely! And I still think the BH is a decent detector that does a great job as a coin & relic detector. The best machine is the one you can access. Happy Hunting!
