G'day Modernprospector.
M8, I don't want to sound rude, but if your going to throw a sweetener scene as a marketing gesture for your new video, couldn't you at least have shown a "branch free" scene,so that we may all be able to see exactly what your doing in the background, for the video picture and sound are outstanding.
Cheers kon61.

I thought it was a good vid the bush out there is pretty thick and I am handling the camera myself anyway that was one of 10 pieces I found that day Queensland still has plenty of gold to be won by guys that want to do raw exploration rather than going to designated fossiking areas which in Queensland we all know is crap.

Cleaning Nuggets by putting them In Your Mouth....
I appreciate that you've gone to the trouble to shoot in HD which is now becoming standard for many viewers. You've also locked down the camera (tripod?) which makes it much easier to watch and reduces dithering - something that occurs when you pan and then compress the video for YouTube. Color and lighting is good from that camera. Sound is fairly clear. Your body language, posture and facial expressions up close to the camera were fairly sterile and indicate to me a complete lack of surprise when you found the nugget and again when you presented it to the camera - but I appreciate that you were producing a video and that you wished to keep the pacing and contain the shot efficiently. Composition was good for this scene.
One thing bothers me though: it is a VERY dangerous thing to put a dirt covered gold nugget in your mouth for the following reasons. You probably know that mercury lost nearby by the old-timers will likely be on the nugget and cyanide can still be a concern if it was used there (and you already identified the area as being a pre-dug mulloch heap remnant). The second (and far more serious) concern about putting a nugget in your mouth is the extremely high chances of a particularly type of nasty type of bacteria making its way into your body. One of our member's wives ended up in critical condition in hospital (feel free to chime in if anyone remembers the details) after putting a nugget into her mouth to "clean it" - resulting in some type of amoeba entering her blood and nearly killing her. There's also a number of parasitic worms that can enter the heart and the brain that are found in wild pig droppings from Queensland. Sounds like you watched one too many Jack Lang videos as he also makes the decision (albeit a very bad one) to do this, much to the horror of many a prospector. It's a VERY bad habit some of us are trying hard to discourage. I'd prefer to eat lead paint from China than put a nugget in my mouth with dirt on it for the above reasons... the Amoeba and pinworm eggs being the most disturbing possibility for me. When you have drinking water on you (you should have more than you will need), it's a safer method to use a few drops of that to clean your nugget. If not, put water in your darned nugget container which will prevent them damaging one another somewhat and will clean them as you walk. An alternative is to show the nugget out of the ground and then cut to a closeup of the cleaned nugget - either later or just insert it after the closeup.
All the best with your DVD. The hard work is all done now. Grow a goatee to go with that hat and glasses and you'll fool us into thinking we're watching the next Johnathan Porter video!
Cheers.

Thanks
Thanks for the appertiser modern prospector, great video. I reckon a lot of blokes on here would walk past a signal that loud and dismiss it as junk, too busy focusing on subgrammers.
You blokes are being a bit hard on MP, too many branches, nugget in mouth Fair dink?
Anyone who has filmed themselves detecting and digging nuggets will know what a pain in the Ass this is, so my hat goes off to you MP. As mentioned in an other post, there is nothing better than sitting back with a cold can in hand and watching somebody digging up gold.
Cheers

I appreciate the feedback guys more than helpful from everyone, and to nero about putting nuggets in my mouth to clean the dirt of I will take your advice and not do it anymore dont want to take the risk. I will be back out there in the bush next week running the detector over the ground from the diggings down to the gully the ground is shallow when I dug down to check so hopefully there is a nugget or 2 waiting to give me of a signal. I will take the camera with me and film along the way, also I suppose I dont show much excitement when I find the nuggets but believe me Im happy as larry there is just a few things going on around me at the same time, the bush is thick and Im pretty isolated when out there you have to keep on your toes as the place is loaded with wild dogs I have shot 1 so far that was following me 5 months ago if you see the vid you can see me at one point turning my head looking at something of camera and it is a wild dog somewhere there I can hear him but cant see him. The property owner ran his cattle there but was loosing to many to the dogs so he moved them to another property he also said some of the dogs were aggressive he has also come across them over the years and had to shoot them. When I move from filming to another spot I carry the metal detector camera tripod and the 30/30 with me it is difficult but I manage probably need a helper I think would be safer and easier.
All the best Brian Jones.

Re: Found this on a mullock heap.
Hi Modernprospector I have to agree with some of the comments by other members (Nugget in Mouth ect), otherwise I really enjoyed the video. The quality, sound, and clarity, was excellant. If your new Vid is like this it should be a good vid to have and watch having a few froffy tops. I also liked were you emphasized about filling in your holes, but would have liked for you to say "WHY" We know, but other may not.

Re: Found this on a mullock heap.
Hi MD,
Great video mate! It is great to be able to see just how it all works as I'm very new to this. If I was up your way (Bundy), I would quite happily offer my services as an assistant, wild dogs are a great problem down here in Vic too and yet another pass time of mine! I'd let you chase the gold and I'd chase the dogs ... atleast for a while. Also a great tip on 'backfilling' the holes. I'm currently studying at uni (environmental) and that is a huge problem when people don't backfill as it causes weed invasion and OH&S issues. Keep up the great work!
Nero: I would of never of known that it was dangerous to stick the gold in your mouth and admittedly, I would have done it as a natural reaction. That's a great tip!
Nature Pete.

Re: Found this on a mullock heap.
Always good to see videos on prospecting and people detecting nuggets, keep up the good work MP, as Nero said the camera work is top
quality , from a viewers point of view you just need to relax a bit , it seems now there are a few members now who upload their finds to youtube
ie M Tuna, Nero , Stoppsy , keep them coming guys and well done for putting in the extra effort and sharing.
Cheers Mark

Re: Found this on a mullock heap.
Yes, couldnt agree more. The video quality and sound is great. Well dome Modern, keep up the great work. I read you comment above regatding the wild dog problem in Queensland. Does the Qld gov have a regulkar baiting prog in place. I know they do here in WA but obviously it does not solve the wild dog problem completely. Does WA have as bigger prob as Qld with wild dogs. The only reason I say this is because I spent just over a year in exploration (with a well known gold company) up past Wiluna and I never saw a wild dog out that way. Good tip on the "not puttging gold in the mouth", BRAIN WORMS, Geez, those buggers get everywhere

Re: Found this on a mullock heap.
Hi
Couldnt agree more with not putting the gold in ya mouth, i used to do that until it saw me on the side of the
rd to tibaburra nearly dead from my kidneys and liver shutting down due to me contracting
hepititus A due to the filthy dirt coating to the gold, these days im happy to see a bit of a glint
and then put it in the pill bottle till i get back to camp and wash up with water..

Nice little nugget,
Last thing I ever pulled out of a mullock heap had a couple of nippers at the front and a stinger curved over its back.
