big gold on top??????
hey guys
was slucing the other day and noticed that there was more gold and bigger between the top and 300mm down and when i did dig further down the gold become finner and less...is this because the gold has just been washed there?...the bigger peices are very flat about 2mm diameter but paper thin and lots of black sand..
when i washed it in the pan it seemed the smaller peices seperated easy from the black sand and the bigger stayed with it...i allways thought it would be the other way round?????

Re: big gold on top??????
yes skysite....you are most likely working in an area which has just been replenished and the new run is higher in the gravel......keep in mind depending on the depth of gravel and terrain you might even have several layers of gold, not always the richest on bedrock...all depends on how much and how fast the water is moving there whether the gold will settle right down and how soon....go gettem mate whilst all the good stuff is in easy reach...and yes the bigger bits will stay with the black sand longer in the pan...

gold on top
In lake carey in WA we found a patch and its just thick deep mud with nuggys scatted through it. I also found a 90 grammer near Widgimooltha in the decomposing gum leaves under a tree right where it met loamy soil? pushed up by the roots maybe?

gold on surface
most of the good size bits Ive found are very close to the surface. Ive also dug some nice deepys but there is defiantly a science in nuggets on the surface (or first 4 inches) the gold in WA is 2700myo in places so that would throw out the " how much water how soon theory" cause WA has been under oceans several times, was under glacial impacts, was in monsoons that are 100 times bigger than today and it still hasn't settled to the lowest point but i still dont want to say that "B" word cause the supergene and re-precipitation process just makes a hell of alot more sense to me.
