GP Extreme - Mono vs DD
I have used this model with pretty good results lately, got some nice gold from an old patch last week using the standard 11" DD coil. My questioin, will running this coil in the "mono mode" that the extreme is equip with give me the same results as a mono coil, next trip I will probably give it a go.
cheers

Re: GP Extreme - Mono vs DD
Gday mate I'm using Gp Extreme as well with a NF 9"mono coil, Try these settings: Deep, Thresehold so you can,t just hear it, signal all the way up, volume to the max, Level adjust 12 o,clock, all metal to Disc, soil to sensitive, Rx Normal, Balance Fixed depending on soil conditions
Try that, I have been using these settings with mine and it seems too work well. I all ways use double DD mode with mono coils. Hope this helps. Cheers

GDay
Using the standard minelab 11 dd coil set in the mono mode your coil will operate as a pseudo mono coil, without being technical it basically means that you are effectively using only half of the coil, while this improves the sensitivity and you are still able to use the descrimination function, it will not give you the same depth that a equivilent 11 mono coil would.
For outright depth an 11" dedicated mono coil would be better, my old extreme worked very well with the coiltek 11 mono, but no descrimination.

Standard coil in mono I have found, to be a .2 grammer magnet at moderate depth- on a 3000.

Gday Hobo`s gold,
Mate if you run your threshold at silent how will you hear those faint, deep targets that only just blank the threshold rather than give a hi-low signal?

Hi all,
HOBO'S Gold thanks for the tip; however can you explain to me your last sentence "I always use dd mode with mono coils"
hope you can help!

Re: GP Extreme - Mono vs DD
There are Extremes and Extremes, some are a poor second to a known good one. Some early revision 1.5 boards have suspect components, 1.7 revision boards have a much more stable threshold. Later Extremes are much the same as a GP-3000

Hi,
when using a Mono coil, the Discriminating feature does not work.
Signal should never be 100% or <10%, you need to hear variances in signals from targets.
Tone - personal preference
Personally GB is the most important setting to get correct. And do so regularly.

Re: GP Extreme - Mono vs DD
i have an extreme and have been running it mainly in the dd settings and found some pieces up to 10 gms incl one that I reckon would float, today I decided to use the E setting, which if my info is correct simulates a mono setup, anyway I got the faintest of signals, scraped away the topsoil put the coil over again, and nearly blew me eardrums out, for a 1 grmer really flat very bright piece shape of a triangle very sharp jagged edges
if this is doing that , then dreams of a new detector well and truly on the back burner 4 a while at least
