G'day Explorer.
One metric ton of gold will be around 14.6 inches cubed or approx 37.28 cubed cm,approx $45,010,000 at 1400/oz.
Cheers kon61.

Re: 1 metric tonne of gold would be the size of 14.16 inches squared
I've actually fantasised as to how I would remove such a lump from a hole and then somehow get it into my vehicle. LOL I bet I'm not the only one either...

G'day Byteman.
I wouldn't worry to much about how to remove a ton lump of gold, out of the hole i found it in,as much as i would worry about who else might be staring down at the hole beside me.
Cheers kon61.

Hi Guys, Yes I had a real problem gettng these suckers out of the ground but big thanks to the land owner who had a big excavator & loaned me this old flat deck truck to get them home. Needles to say....my working days are over. Sorry my lips are sealed as to the location.

Ohh JW!!! you are full of it! lol Firstly the truck tyres haven't burst. Secondly you should have used Taubmans gold paint instead of Dulux.
Thirdly, I can see by the grass that the truck hasn't moved for 14 years cause that is when the WOF expired. Good try but!! Here is some of mine....

1 metric tonne of gold
1 cubic foot of gold is 1206lbs in the old scale or 548.18kgs metric. I guess that younger people dont know much about the Imperial system, having learnt metric at school. Multiples of ten, sweet. Anyway 2240Ibs to theton, 1000kgs to the tonne (2200Ibs).

Re: 1 metric tonne of gold would be the size of 14.16 inches squared
G'day Malcom, You are correct it is an Otago rugby union footy jersey. Not Lugget but is in Central Otago some where. Yes central is a paradise......mind you so is Whangamata where I am living at present which is about to become a mini Auckland as all the Jafa's swamp our coastal play ground over xmas & the new year. It is only for a few weeks but, then back to normality. What ever normal is.
Hope you have a great xmas too.
Happy hunting

Re: 1 metric tonne of gold would be the size of 14.16 inches squared
Ludgate or Luggate Malcolm? If it is between Clyde and Wanaka it would be Luggate. Been there a time or two. Had a Bro in law that drove for the transport company for many years. Another was a milkman who worked Wanaka to Luggate. Small world.

Re: 1 metric tonne of gold would be the size of 14.16 inches squared
Tunnel rat no-one mentioned a cubic foot of gold read the Forum header again mate. I have been told a extra 2 or 3 inches make all the difference in the world to some woman. Especially when it comes to gold.

Re: 1 metric tonne of gold would be the size of 14.16 inches squared
1 cubic inch of water weighs 0.016387064 kg
1 cubic inch of gold weighs 0.31659 kg
therfore 14.16 inches cubed is 2839.1592 cubic inches
Therfore 2839.1592 x 0.31659 kg = 898.84941 kg x 2.20lb per kilo = 1977.4687 lb =0.88279 ton when 2240lb per ton.
Therefore 1 cubic ton of gold will be 14.76 inches cubed at standard room temp of 21 degrees C.
