Cyclone Jasper
I see that Cyclone Jasper is becoming a little excited as it heads for Cairns.
At this time 16:30 the eye wind speed at close to ground level is approx 90 km/h,,at 100 mtr alt wind speed is 110 km/h, at 500 mtr speed is 130 km/h at 1000 mtr speed is 170 km/h .
If this cyclone makes landfall near Cairns by the 12 -13th dec then the rotational speed could reach 180 km/h at an alt of 100 mtr...190 to 200 at 500 mtr alt.
So yez cairnzites had better secure yer boats coz some of those winds at 500 to 1000 mtr can swoop down as micro bursts and relocate your boat inland.
Hmm, A couple of hours later Jasper has weakened a tad....Cyclonic twit.

Re: Cyclone Jasper
I've only experienced one cyclone which was Justin in the mid 90's.I got stuck in Ingham for a couple of days.
It dumped over a metre of rain in 24 hours and one poor kid was killed.
The phrase that they sound like a freight train coming through is true, scary stuff.

Re: Cyclone Jasper
Yes I know the sound. Had our roof blown off twice at night. The entire sky was lit up by rolling sheet lightning...Awesome sight and the back yard fence was writhing about like a red bellied black being chased by Steve Irwin.
Jasper still has plenty of energy so batten down the hatches.
Lots of rain and lightning And umbrellas probably wont help much.
