dead gpx 5000
Went to fire up the 5000 and zippo zilch nutting.
changed the leads and battery-nothing.
Options are remove back cover and have a look to see if wiring is intact to the pin or pack it up and send it for repairs.
Any suggestions/advice welcomed.

Re: dead gpx 5000
Less there's an issue with your coil or coil lead/plug end & you still can't work out where the problem might be, get Mick (Mechanic) to have a look at it for you.

Re: dead gpx 5000
What a weird day, similar to the weather.
I dug out my old wireless battery and plug that in to see what would happen and blow me down the blooody gpx worked:face:
The fully charged battery I was using had a gremlin in it,when i plugged it into the charger the LED light flickered amber very quickly-what the?
I then unplugged it from the charger and plugged it straight back in and presto, a fully green LED light,I then tried it on the 5000 and it worked.
MY spare battery which is very sick any way had died as well.
So there you have it folks, the "bad battery planets" aligned and fooled me into thinking my detector had died.
So it's time to celebrate with a frosty and sail on

Re: dead gpx 5000
Another beautiful day here in central vic, rain and hail squalls all day long,I worked out there was about half an hour in between each 15 min squall.
Plenty of time to get out bush for a detect and dash back to the car and wait.
So with my two fully charged batteries off I went. I got out and set up my troublesome detector, hooked up the battery to the rooster booster switched it on and nutting again
I tried the other battery and lead AND NOTHING but I did see a flash of a screen this time, was it the rotten booster??
I got home pulled both batteries apart tested each one, pulled the clips off the batteries and did a hard reset of sorts.
I then pulled the booster apart ,nothing obvious but then the penny dropped, something had hit the on/off switch and pushed the lug onto the fuse causing a short.
So with a gentle push and a bit of plastic to keep things separated it was back to normal,OMG
Out tomorrow for another go

Re: dead gpx 5000
I have found that the rooster booster does work to bring out small signals but it also enhances ground noise.
It does work and give it a try if you want to although I removed mine from my detector after only a short stint of use. That is just me. There are plenty of others who swear by this little gadget.

Re: dead gpx 5000
I've repaired a couple of Rooster Boosters over the years. Faults have all been with the power switch going noisy. This booster is no longer made
A better amp, in my opinion, is the Steelphase SP01 available through Nenad here http://phasetechnical.com.au/product/steelphase-sp01-audio-enhancer/

Re: dead gpx 5000
I also have used a Steelphase enhancer and it also works well but for one reason or another I end up disconnecting enhancers and running the detector in normal config. I am a bit old fashioned and think that AVG and AVC ccts are better used in radio and television audio control ccts.
