Not sure about litrature, but music (lyrics) is copyrighted for 50 years after the death of the author, then after that time there is no copyright pending.

Victorian
The last map is critical !!!!!!!!!!! it is missing(removed) from most of the copies......only 1,000 were printed and only 200 found their way into private hands(the 800 went to govt., statutary bodies etc.)
Without that last map (which opens up into a huge detailed map) in devalues the book tremendously.

Re: Goldfields of Victoria
Probably the most detailed book of not only the goldfields, but the complete make up and geology of the land. A heavy read, but well worth it. Alot to take in.

Re: Goldfields of Victoria
Definately 50 years Goldbait, or it was when I looked into it to see how I go about getting some of my lyrics copyright.
Actually easy, in Oz it is automatically copyright, to prove that it is yours if ever needed in a court, simply put all originals into an envelope and get it time dated and post to yourself and never open.

Re: Goldfields of Victoria
Looking at the copyright laws of Australia (http://www.copyright.org.au/admin/cms-acc1/_images/1889836124c8dbfe7b2fba.pdf), copyright is now the lifetime of the creator, plus 70 years. The laws were changed in 2005. Under the Free Trade Agreement with the US, Australia agreed to extend the 'plus' from 50 years to 70 years. But, if copyright had already expired prior to the law change in 2005, it remained expired.
The digital book that Davsgold has mentioned was published in 1869 by R. BROUGH SMYTH, who died in 1889, therefor the copyright expired around 1939.
