CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections and Flares can play havock with our short wave coms, satellites and power grids, so they are also likely to produce EMI in our metal detectors.
These events can cause huge earth currents and voltage fluctuations in the Earth's crust, induce over voltages and currents in power transformers and power factor capacitors which can result in transformer fires and explosions.
So I imagine that these solar events are responsible for much of the unexplained EMI that we encounter in the wide open spaces.

Yesterdays CME.

This is/was a bigish one and was about 400,000 km long (approx from the Earth to the moon) and moving at approx 2800 km/sec....This one did not hit the earth.

I notice in this pic that the N & S polar areas appear to be darker/cooler than the rest of the sun??

That one missed us Adrian. Not worried about the EMI.
Could explain the global cooling we have had lately, snow all over the place. confused

No global cooling just weather! You are confused between weather and climate!

This might have something to do with the coolish wet n windy weather we are having.

At what point does weather become climate??
What period of time has to elapse in order for a particular weather pattern to become Climate? Minutes, hours, Days years.....Or is it just a period of time decided upon by an egg head somewhere??
If we are about to have a storm do I say, "There is going to be stormy weather today" or can I say "Hmmm I think the climate is going to get a bit stormy today

Climate is the "weather" conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period of time.... How long is long?? Rolling Eyes

That vortex is beginning to move out to the East and with a bit of luck the short term weather/climate  Very Happy  pattern will stabilize and the temps will warm up slightly.

These winds and vortices follow fairly regular patterns around the earth and move quickly in longitude, although can shift in latitude
