GB, Get your wife a 6000 & then you have the best of both worlds & then you can inform us.
Good luck out there

Re: minelab 6000 detector
Started the detector up this morning, let it run thru start up/noise cancel then wandered off detecting.mbasko wrote:The only bits we've tried in air (over the coil) were done at the end of the day while packing up & were still good, strong signals.norvic wrote:Perhaps of interest, although not being into anything but field testing on undug targets, I had an interested fellow prospector visit early this morn, and to impress him with the 6000 I turned on and run a scrap of gold over the coil, the signal was piss poor and had to actually have the scrap right on the coil. Food for thought, was that Geosense at work???? and even more then before shows that air tests are not to be taken too seriously. Could one of you other 6000 users confirm this finding please?
Maybe it was due to a "cold" start?
I won't get out again until Friday so if I think about it on start up I'll give it a go with one of the tiddlers I got today & let you know.
Then remembered Shite I was supposed to do something this morning
I had 2 tiny specs with me so I used the smallest one which would be well under <0.1 gram.
Could get a definite dig signal 2-3 inches above the coil & a loud, clear signal from about 1/2" down to the coil surface.
One thing I noticed today doing this is the signal is noticeably better just on the inside of the inner groove on top of the coil rather than the edge. This would seem to indicate they are flat wound like Evo/Elite coils - I'm a bit slow but haven't seen it confirmed anywhere that they are spirals?
In saying that I've found the 6000 a breeze to pinpoint even tiny targets with so wherever the coil "sweet spot" it seems to be working ok for me.

Re: minelab 6000 detector
Yeah, in a hurry to demonstrate, I had turned mine on inside shouse but 1m or so clear of metal, just a feeling the Geosense had compensated, shook its head thinking who detects for gold inside a shouse.... Just a note have just tried a set of Aventree Torus headband, WTG pair easy, low latency and have either speaker/ear phone option. Speaker option is brilliant with a volume control, no more soggy ears, sits easily around neck, comfy and like they are glued there, being Aventree they should be reliable time will tell.

Re: minelab 6000 detector
Why is a 14" DD coil included with the 6000?

Good for salty ground and maybe large deep nuggs.

Re: minelab 6000 detector
As Adrian says it's for salty ground or highly conductive ground that the mono coil/s can't tame.llanbric wrote:Why is a 14" DD coil included with the 6000?
Also for bad EMI areas.
The GPX6000 has 2 x modes to choose when a DD coil is attached : EMI cancel & Conductive Ground cancel.
From all reports it still maintains good depth & sensitivity for a mid sized DD in these cancel modes.
Haven't used mine yet but do have some areas in mind for it.

Re: minelab 6000 detector
Thanks for all your thoughts and experiences. I have a 5000 but haven't detected for some years due to surgeries hip and shoulder. I have ordered a 6000 and I am looking forward to hopefully sharing good results! It is the ergonomics and less weight that won me over. Damn expensive but hopefully the last detector I will need to buy! We shall see.

Just picked mine up today. Feels good. Nice balance and light. Look forward in lighting it up and giving it a run. Could be my type of detector. Here we go.

Good luck with it all Reg, it will be interesting to say the least.
Plenty of area's out your way that have been flogged.
It'll be interesting on your private patches as well.

Re: minelab 6000 detector
Hi all,
Back home again and taken a while to post this on the 6000. Our plans changed yet again returning from Townsville and instead of going to Georgetown we came south via Clermont. Only had a few days to swing and managed four tiddlers on the first outing with the 6000. It was in detected areas of Mcmasters GPA and they were .15, .13, .05 and .10 of a gram that is! Using the 6000 was simple/easy and loved swinging it compared to the 5000. These tiddlers were in the dust or no more than 2-3 inches in depth. We have detected lots of small shot up to 5-6inches in depth maybe some deeper but possibly dug past the targ to get it out. I cant see that there was nothing the 5000 would not have detected but still early days as we havent really used the 6000 enough yet. Dug lots of trash others have missed that is for sure!
Next time we go to Clermont will be a minimum of three weeks I hope longer. Cant really plan much with covid for now. Perhaps next year...
Cheers

Re: minelab 6000 detector
The 6000 has a built in speaker, but from reports it may not be the best option. Some have claimed that the speaker is responsible for the 6000 being susceptible to EMI.
I never use speakers as I don't believe they are as effective as headphones when it comes to faint and subtle signals, however, any Bluetooth speakers should be compatible with the 6000 as it can be paired to Bluetooth headphones other than the ones supplied.
A better option (in my opinion) would be to use the Quest Mate Wireless system. The TX can be plugged into the headphone jack on the detector, while the Rx can be linked to a speaker via a short cable. An Sp01 can also be integrated into this system to give an even better audio.
I use the Quest Wireless linked to noise cancelling headphones or ear buds, and so far have had no EMI problems.
