By jasong, 3rd comment down,......

https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/14329-whats-your-view-of-detectings-future/#comments

Back in the 80's and 90's, SWMBO and self detected in the Vic Golden Triangle around 3 or 4 times a year we got friendly with local Farmers in different areas and either shared our gold finds or donated SA Beer/wine for a win win. Since then have visited WA and Tibooburra and Vic maybe only once or twice a year and did not keep in touch with our Vic farmer friends.

Early this week visited a SA goldfield for a nil result, however did speak to a local who has diggings on his farm and we discussed detecting but as jasong mentioned above it takes some time to build up trust etc prior to getting onto private property.

Another comment that may/maynot be mentioned on this thread is the decrease in Lost coins on beaches/parks etc due to the credit card/electronic transfers which to me will reduce the number of coin detectors sold over time..

G'day Pete

The greater majority of undisturbed or little disturbed land for the purpose of prospecting or the detecting of gold, unfortunately is to be found on private land.
It always were, is & always will be a difficult proposition for a detectorist to gain access on private land, for the purpose of detecting for gold. The reasons for & against are many, for much has been heard, seen & done by some prospectors in the past, which gave rise to distrust through the eyes of the land owner, to warrant easier accessibility on private ground.
Bottom line, many a private land owner here in Vic for example, for various reasons, prefers to keep their privacy private & people they don't know out & off their land & who can blame them for that?
Besides, knowing one has a gold field or detectable gold workings running through ones land coupled to the current price of gold today, is more than enough to warrant keeping people/intruders off ones property. True that trust like respect, can only be earned over time, but gold, which in itself translates to money, of which we all strive/work for today, once that's taken out of the ground & sold off, how then can that be replaced, its gone for good.
Back in the 60's/70's very little were known about hand held metal detectors for the purpose of gold detecting, coin or relic hunting (more money/time were spent on hunting, fishing & shooting etc)  & even fewer were the ones out prospecting for gold or coins & such.
Today or should I say over the last 40/50 years, from the earliest times of metal detector introduction, you can just about say that every man & his dog has been made aware of such. But again, like all hobbies it is not for everyone.
Overall, natural gold nuggets over known goldfields on crown land are depleting, same goes for the coin & relic world, for one can't keep going back over the same ground, using technology offering pretty much similar characteristics/depths, to its predecessors & keep finding gold or coins within gold fields or parks etc at similar depth levels found before, for it be like flogging a dead horse.
Today & into the future, less metal detecting manufacturers strive towards giving the detectorist, detectors that are far more lighter in weight & much more capable in way of their ground handling & target separation characteristics than their predecessors, discriminating through the good, the bad & the ugly, at far better depth than is currently available today, then yes, the future of metal detecting for gold/coin or relics etc, is looking grim.
Alas my comments above are not to be seen or taken as negative, for there is always hope. Hope in the way of better, more precise coil/detector technological advancements, closing further windows & opening more doors to the detection of a broader variety of in ground metal targets in general, at a variety of depths.

Cheers Kon. T25

Yes, before the time that the majority of bush tracks were not littered with cans and ring pulls detecting was always a pleasant experience.
One experience has been implanted in my memory from years gone bye.
Jumped out of vehicle in a remote area, geared up and not 20 steps away got a signal that produced a 3 grammer.
Was over the moon, thought I was onto a patch. Very Happy clown
Chained every each way for nothing more than a .32 bullet. Walking back to vehicle feeling a little dejected, I got a signal and out popped a 1932 threepence?
No doubt many others have experienced similar.
How/why can there be a bullet, nugget and a threepence in the middle of nowhere, and not another single target in a 100 meter radius?
