10x5 vs 8 inch for small stuff
hi members new to the forum, im getting a gp3500 off a member on this forum and want to get a small coil for it, i am in nz but i will be in vic in a week or two and buy some coils then. i was in vic last year for several weeks with hired 4500s which were deadly on the small stuff with the 10x5 mono. i have heard a lot of you guys speak well of the 8 inch for cleaning up mulloch heaps and cracks in bedrock. alot of our hunting in nz is over bedrock and shallow workings, my question is have any of you had both but greatly prefer one over the other? i thought the elip 10x5 was very easy to pinpoint targets, is the round 8 just as easy?
any advice would be thankfully recieved, cheers ranger08

Re: 10x5 vs 8 inch for small stuff
Hey ranger. Welcome. I have used both and I would give the 8inch round the blue ribbon. It is deadly on smalls and has some impressive depth on larger targets. Running a mono on the 3500, I believe the 10x5 does not give you as much feedback from hot ground. I am using a NF 12X7 and this is the smallest coil I will use. I found two bits today with it hat weigh .03 and ? because it would not even weigh on my scales !
Chris.

Hi Ranger, welcome to the forum! My thoughts would only mirror what Chris wrote so I'll just say ditto.
As for pinpointing withe the 8"...it's a piece of cake!

Hi Stoppsy,
I run a 12" elip on my 4000, you have me Thinking now. I do have an old M/L 8" i might give it a run again & see how it goes, havent used it for some time, was noisy when i was working too quick.
Slow & slower & always low.

Hi Stoppsy
I was wondering, did you find the 10x5 easier to move around in tight places than the 8"

Re: 10x5 vs 8 inch for small stuff
hey jim the 11" was okay but the 8" mono is great for rocky and real bushy spots, you don't miss much at all with the 8".

Hi stopssy
Thanks for the advice.
We sure do have alot of rocks & bushes Briar Rose,Prickly Spaniard & Rose Hip which was introduced on to alot of our goldfields by the old diggers, used into a tea to help prevent scurvey.
I am looking to buy coil in next couple of days hopefully.
Cheers Jim
