Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
That's why vic being a small state with a population of 6.3 million people had some tight covid restrictions.
With melbourne's population now nearly 5 million it was a measure to control these people and stop them moving around plus restricting them from leaving the city into the country area's.
Country vic over the long weekend was over run with visitors.

Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
It's an ok place adrian, beach detecting has some nice sites
Qld is a big joint but very heavily populated from the gold coast up to noosa, starts to thin out after that.
They to could have problems if a second wave occurs hence their restrictions,"a but"

There is not much up there to want to go and see...You know, a a lot of desert and a bit of rain forest, cyclones and stinking hot humid weather. Overseas visitors might want to go there...I wonder how many of them do a second trip?? but we are not allowing international travel yet. Queensland; Beautiful one day and blown away n drowned the next. Heh, Heh, Heh.
Adrian, have you ever been to QLD in winter? There’s a flock of interstate visitors that come here to escape the cold, mostly from Victoria. The view up here is, we have COVID-19 under control and no confidence that VIC & NSW do. Plus there has been those recent protest gatherings for ‘Black Lives Matter’ and there are fears there may be a second round to happen. The Premier is under a lot of pressure to open the border to NSW but the main opinion of residents is ‘not yet’.

G'day Mike
It looks like we won't be getting to WA this year, by the time the boarders open it will be to late for us to go I reckon, are you hoping to go or not this year.
cheers dave
G’day Dave,
Yes we were hoping for the borders to open before the weather gets too warm over there, so the way things are looking at the moment I don’t think we will get over there this year either.
As for the Covid 19 Virus there is still no known cases in our area.
Cheers. Mike.

The area of Australia is 7692 million sq km
Therefore the average population density of Australia is approx 320 persons per sq km and the cases of corona viruses in this area is small compared to most other countries in the world.
The population of QLD is approx 5 million persons in an area of 1,853 000 sq km which is approx 0.36 persons per sq km. Therefore the chances of getting the corona virus in QLD is bugger all if you base the likelihood of it spreading due to population density.
Your figures suck Adrian. There are a lot of vast non-populated areas and also a lot of densely populated areas. Maybe they just don't want the disease riddled southerners upsetting the "beautiful one day, perfect the next" environment.

RE: WHY ARE QUEENSLAND BORDERS CLOSED
Lived here in Qld all my life except for 9 years in Victoria.. The summers are hot here so get away from the coastal areas and escape the humidity and or invest in aircon..
This topic kidnaps the border issue and lets the covid 19 issue wander wherever it likes, thanks to people selfishly demanding to travel hither thither and yon with the likelihood of taking the virus to unsuspecting souls..
What's more important?? to continue living virus free or demanding "rights" ,, You can't demand much stuck in a hospital on a ventilator in a semi coma,, or buried 6Foot under pushing up daisies.. But being inconvenienced because a border is closed and so remaining relatively virus free is a bonus that you cannot deny. no matter how many "rights" you demand.
For me personally. I'll take the virus free option and to hell with demanding perceived "rights". enjoy,, dundiggin

Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
All these sensless protests will not help. Victoria and nsw have not got virus under control like other states. Can you imagine if those from vic and nsw vunerable areas migrate to other states, very possible for china virus to bolt again. Dont get me wrong, i would like to see borders open as much as the rest of you.
They are talking about overseas flights coming in. The qld government has now said that those coming in to pay for hotel 2 week stay. About time that happens.

Qld has 0.02% cases of corona per total population
Vic has 0.02 % cases of corona per total population.
These two States have similar populations and yet even though Vic is a much higher density where you would think that the total cases would be higher than in QLD, such is not the case. In short yez QLDers must be coughing far and wide all over everybody up there.
QLD population is spread over a far greater area than Victoria and yet the % of cases there is identical to that of Victoria. It would seem that the QLDers are not social distancing very well aye. Aha, Aha, Aha.
Here are some current corona facts.
https://www.health.gov.au/news/health-alerts/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-alert/coronavirus-covid-19-current-situation-and-case-numbers#total-cases-and-deaths-by-state-and-territory
So Adrian, did you happen to look at where Qld's cases were? Most likely at the densely populated areas. You can keep coming up with facts if you like but you are barking up the wrong tree. Stop trolling.
So if Qlder's are not socially distancing then why do you want to go up there? Stay down there with your poly mates.
Cheers
Doug

Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
Will our wonderful country EVER get back on an even keel?
Oh! For the good old days, when strangers met with a "good morning and a hand shake" and not cringe, look down and step away when we pass "less than a metre apart."
It is a VERY sad world, let's hope for a miracle......………...

Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
Very sad world indeed Pete. Its turning into a money hungry, dog eat dog world, with little sympathy & even less respect for one another. Sadly, it isn't the COVID-19 virus I fear most, but more so for what lies ahead for the economy & the average working class tax payer.
Adrian, as Doug said, either get all your facts straight, or please let it go will ya? There are more important things to consider/worry about during these troubled times, than trying to find fault with our neighbour.

Re: Why Are QLD Borders Closed??
A good mate of mine in WA made a very valid point, if you like it so much in the State your not allowed to go you could have moved to and lived there, then there’s no more problem (There’s plenty of cheap houses in Clermont and the housing market is down 20% in WA).
The amount of out of state people I’ve seen poking around the forests in Clermont in recent weeks who have obviously defied travel restrictions is laughable, yet the whole of Australia is paying and will continue to pay a massive future price so ‘they’ can Sneak around and still dodge the COVID19 bullet! The fact everyone’s belly aching about it tells the true story, at least we’re not having to continually go to a friends or family members funerals like some countries.

Is it not possible JP, that those "out of state" people you have seen poking about around the forests in Clermont were already in Qld. before the restrictions were applied?
Could it be that you were also out detecting when you should not have been?
Alas, you let the cat out of the bag by your postings on the US Detector Prospector forum whereby you comment that the lockdowns have "ruined" your business and in order to merely survive you have found need to target an ounce of gold a week from your exclusive Clermont land areas.
I reckon you are being a little hypocritical here

This was when the GPA’s were reopened and locals could only travel 150 kms from home, there was no one around during the warmer months they just popped out of the woodwork when things cooled down. Any detecting I did during the lock down and after closure of the GPAs was done on areas where I had permission and were in accordance with all travel restrictions. But hey don’t let the facts get in the way of assuming the worst and having a crack at me.
