Re: ferrite ring
If its broken in two bits, use some type of appropriate glue to glue the two sides together & once dry solid, put the ferite in a small plastic bag to suit Joe & use it like that. As long as the ferrite remains as a whole (& not half of) so that the GPZ registers its full ferritic strength & adjusts itself accordingly, I see no problem.
If you intend on buying new, get the original Minelab ferrite, designed specifically for the GPZ 7000.
Cheers Kon.

Re: ferrite ring
I broke mine into several pieces.....put them together and used silicon glue....works fine...the detector tunes just as it should.

Re: ferrite ring
Joe, Wrap your new one in bubble wrap and secure it with some sticky tape or as Kon says, a small plastic bag, they survive being dropped like this.

Re: ferrite ring
Got told by minelab dealer that once broken they were no good anymore.
20 bucks is not a big deal incase that is true.

Minelab is correct a ferrite or Iron toroid will not have the same effect if broken unless you can maintain the conductivity through it which would be extremely hard, I bought 4 off of ebay for $40 bucks when I broke mine. (come as 2 for $20)... The broken toroid will still have an effect on the detector but not the same as an unbroken one...
