Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Finally found a bit of the Pilbara's conglomerate gold, best day I've had in a long time. All found within 3 meters of each other going low and slow for an hour. Found with the 5000 and 12" advantage. Might have to go back with the SDC and see what it can sniff out before my 40E runs out, and before it gets much hotter.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Every time I try the 14" up here the interference is almost unbearable, tried to wind it back but still gives false signals . The 12" still gives pretty good depth on some small bits and runs so much quieter, so I can hear those faint ones. EMI where I was is bad unless you stay down in the gullies.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
nice going fredsnugget, must be more there?
By the way where is the EMI coming from way out there? whack on a 8" coil that'll cool it down.
cheers moredeep

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Went back out this arvo for a few hours. nine more little bits raised there heads. 3 are almost fully encased in ironstone so are having a bath in acid to see their real face.
Not sure about the emi source but comes and goes, maybe the mines out here I don't know, is always worse in the arvos though. The 5000 gets noisy but doesn't seem to upset the SDC

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Yeah its not a bad view to dig by. I figure its been there for a long time so hopefully the rest can wait till I get back out there. If some one else stumbles on it before then then good luck to em, if they find it they deserve some reward

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Went back out for one last look yesterday and manage 3 very hard won tiny bits that were only the faintest murmur of the thresh hold on the SDC. Happy now that this little patch as clean as I can get it.
The acid has done its job over the last week and lost about 3g in rock but all up happy with the result. Now to get back out and try find another little piggy bank.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Spent 5 hours yesterday going over the gully, both sides of the slopes and down to where it runs into a small creek further down, Have tried with the SDC and the 5000 with 12 and 14" nugget finder coils over the last 2 weeks and have found nothing except in the one little patch. Has me scratching my head as to why. There must be more there somewhere but stuffed if I can get a signal. Going out there again tomorrow for another crack just in case, but think it will be back to walking the hills looking for another little patch. tossing up on putting in another 40E on a nearby EL, or leave it till the weather gets more pleasant after summer.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Nice finds fredsnuggets, I'm with you, there must be more there as that spot would not be on its own i would think. Looking at your pictures and thinking how ground has changed over thousands of years where you got them, I would be uncovering more dirt and redetecting the spot and above it and below it. Below it would have covered over so digging deeper to find signals would be my option. We found an area and noticed that on lower side we of patch we realised that we dug bigger nuggets so started to scrape with rakes and picks the surface off and then out popped many more bits.
Will be hot up there but enjoy your digging. Thanks for showing us your finds and pictures.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Nice going,I reckon back in the old desperate days they may have dug out that gully like that?
Thats what mainly happened in the eastern states but then again the soil here is much softer, those pics look like it would be hard yakka.
cheers moredeep

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
In two minds at the moment. Went out early yesterday but was sweating like a paedophile at a wiggles concert by 7.30. Dug out a bit more to try get a bit deeper but only managed one tiny bit that didn't even register on the scales, so less than 0.1g. I detect for fun and the heat sort of ruins that. Night detecting is better but it tends to get more humid at night over summer and still only gets down to the mid 30's.
Might be time to have a few months break and hit it again next year. If someone is mad enough to tackle it in the mean time they deserve what ever they find lol

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Lasts for 3 months, sort of after the 21 day waiting period. So not wanting to waste my 90 bucks applying for another one over the hot months when if I wait till Feb might be a bit more pleasant. Then again have 4 or 5 other exploration leases I wouldn't mind havin a crack at that are within a stone's throw of home. Change is as good as a holiday or so they reckon

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Have you approached the company directly and asked for permission to detect? Many companies are reasonable about giving permission. Section 118A of the act allows them to use other people for the expenses that are required each year.
You have little to lose by approaching them and if they refuse then you can still go the 40E way. It will only take a phone call and could save you $90.

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Went down that path of contacting company before I put the 40E in, and they simply directed me straight to the 40E process. Was worth a try but at least I got my 90 bucks back plus a bit more in gold

Re: Karratha Conglomerate Gold
Obviously they have more than enough expenditure already. Short sighted from them but that is their choice. Make sure you put in the report for your existing 40E at expiry.
Hot weather keeps the strangers with prying eyes away so maybe worth another 40 E later in the summer.
