Out of curiosity Dave
Comparing the Z 10x coil v the SDC2300 coil, what is the smallest piece that you have found with both machines

How is your 17" X-Coil going?

Well Dave it's like this
Despite all the controversy about how noisy the x coil is supposed to be and all
I have found a setting where it runs nice and smooth , I'm not going to openly discuss the setting anywhere
Seen way to much crap on other Forums to become part of that.
I know it works and runs just as smooth as the ML14" coil (for me anyways) and it has no worries finding the small stuff either down to .3gr at 6"
also finding so much lead shot left behind by others , makes one wonder why they are still there
If anything, it's like getting to know the Z all over again as the targets for a .5gr sound so much like junk
one just has to dig it all to be sure

Re: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Aahrr, some very nice eye candy there dave. Making me jealous now.
It will be about 3 weeks till we get back to the hills for another run. Got back there a few days ago for couple hours for another 2 bits of that maiden patch. With the large xcoil. .3 and .45g. Bit of cleaning will bring weight down a bit. Xcoil really proving itself. Got that nice trip in a few days. The trial drugs have not been doing there thing so time is of the essence now.

Damn, If only it were all gold None the less, gold is gold. Well done Dave. Judging by the looks of your gold specimen, I get an average of +/- 17 grams of gold contained within it. If you intend on crushing it, do let us know what the gold content comes out to.

Sliced is the way to go first & go from there.
That 17x12 spiral, is working wonders by the looks of it.
Cheers Kon.

Re: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dave, we tried to slice a couple nice speccies couple years ago. They were nice white quartz with good gold content, but when cut they broke apart. Either they did not like any heat, even though they were wet cut. Or the gold in them expanded the quartz breaking them. Gold soft and grabbing blade.
They were quite laden with gold and we really wanted to be able to mount slices in a gold band for pendents but that never worked.
Still worth trying, as would be nice looking with quartz and gold showing. And nothing to loose. Just keep your fines from saw. Gold dust.

130 grams and 50 grams of gold inside this one
The collection for the week 4.5 ozs of gold in these species and nuggets

Re: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Firstly my thanks to Dave (davsgold) for making the 12" X coil available for me to test. I would point out that this is the GPX and QED compatible coil and not the GPZ one.
My testing involved both air and ground, using bundle, flat and spiral wound coils of a similar size, as well as a couple of larger and smaller coils. Real gold was used as well as a 300ml beer can.
The X coil was superior to all other coils of similar size, except when compared to the 25" Nuggetfinder using the beer can. This was naturally an air test.
The QED gave better target response on the smallest bit of gold, (pinhead size) and was far better on a 1.5 gm raggedy piece which the GPX did not like at all, but the GPX was marginally better on some of the larger bits.
The highlight of the X coil was how stable it was on the ground at my place which is gold bearing. I could run it on the QED with a mode of 1 and the gain flat out on 10. It ran very smooth and responsive on this hot setting that I could not use with any other coil on this ground.
Hotter settings can also be used with GPX and I did so with these tests.
Summing up I would say that this coil improves performance on both GPX and QED.

That 17X12 inch spiral wound X-Coil is certainly producing the goods Dave, well done. Can't wait to get my hands on one to test it here in Vic.
