Surprise, surprise
G'day all
I decided to go back to the same feeder that produced the last 2 bits of colour going up hill, but this time decided to take the same feeder starting from the top of the feeder downhill. Just when you think I'v swung over it good & proper the first time round, surprise surprise, 2 other faint signals were heard during the descent. The smaller bit of colour (2.8gm) was down about 6 inches trapped in clay, between 2 slightly protruding sections of slate bar. The other (because of the faint warbly sound it gave) I thought another bit of junk. Well, as Gomer Pyle would say, surprise surprise, in amongst the loose small rock & sand sediment 9 inches down, out pops a 9.9 grammer. Just goes to show, never underestimate any sound given off by any target, thinking that you know better leaving them behind, in search for that perfect, single tone, sweet mellow signal, for the variables involved in this game are many & can change from one day to the next.
Cheers all, Kon.

Re: Surprise, surprise
Thanks fellas & your'e not wrong there Dave. To think how many of those rubbish sounding type signals, I walked away from, in the last 30 odd years detecting, does my head in. Me thinks, best not to think about it.
Cheers Kon.

Re: Surprise, surprise
Very nice nuggies there Kon. I too used to be sceptical about those wobbly sounding targets, but since the GPX & the Zed I now love those types of sounds. Thanks for sharing your story and your pic of your very nice nuggies. Like others have mentioned I too believe that there’s more to be found there.
Cheers.

Good looking gold!
I try not to think of the past either - I just call it the learning experience and move on.
Thanks for posting.

Re: Surprise, surprise
Thanks Steve & GemQ. First chance I get, I'll be swinging over some of the flatter ground adjoining the feeder & see what else might be lurking about.
Cheers gents, Kon.

Re: Surprise, surprise
Well done Kon, nice smaller piece and a great bigger slug. That would have been a good surprise.

Re: Surprise, surprise
The biggest bit found siting in amongst loose loam/wash, expecting it to be rubbish, was a surprise indeed Axtyr. The funny part was coming up the feeder, I would have heard the quite clear signal it gave, believing it can't be gold in loose wash, cause there was no way someone else could have missed it, so I avoided it. It was only on the descent getting the signal once more, I decided what the hec, lets see what the rubbish is in that loose wash. Just goes to show when you think you know better, check to make sure it is rubbish. You'd think I would have learnt something by now hey?
Cheers Kon.

Well done, Kon.
A guy who has detected for years said to me to go over patches in different directions and (then) with different size coils.

Re: Surprise, surprise
Wise words indeed there Annie. Why we all tend to take short cuts, whilst at the same time trying to convince our selves we've covered it right, will most always be at ones loss, to another persons gain. Knowing what we should be doing is one thing, following it up is the hard part. This is why there will always be something left behind, for someone else to find.
Cheers Kon.
