ancient river bed gold

Got this little speciman from a conglomerate river bed near castlemaine,hundreds of thousands if not millions of years old.
Notice the gold is very smooth and rounded as is the original quartz host rock which is now a pebble,it just shows the how much water passed through central Victoria in ancient times.
There are quite a river beds around castlemaine that are actually higher than the township itself .
Just to twist your brains a little, there's an old saying with some geological areas ,what used to be down is now up ,and what was up is now down, [water erosion]

Nice example mate.

Inverted landsacpe, Paleo Channel, where there use to be a river bed in a valley, now it sits high and dry on top of a hill. the river bed gets covered compacted and sometimes lava/basalt flow encased and the rest of the area erodes away.
