New Coiltek 18" mono
Gday
Anybody had the chance to use a new 18" coiltek mono on the 4500?
Just wondering if there are any benefits to using it over the nuggetfinder 18" mono?
cheers

Re: New Coiltek 18" mono
I want to know that too. I have asked that like a broken record and get some good answers but no solid answers. It may seem stupid to add the older and heavier 18" Minelab Commander round mono to that list but don't underestimate it. If by any chance it was found that the Commander beat the other 2, I would put up with the little more weight and buy it.
Someone with all 3 coils on a 4000 or 4500 needs to do a thorough in ground field test on different sized nuggets burried at different depths, to solve this once and for all. (For a start, I would even take one size of nugget at different depths on a 3000 or 3500.) But who would want to buy all 3x of these 18" round monos to do a test, or some mates could get together with 3 of the same detectors with the same settings and these 3 coils for a day and do the field tests on a test bed?
18" CoilTek GoldStalker vs 18" NuggetFinder SL vs 18" Commander round mono??

How big of a target are you looking for? for the 18" round to be of any advantage? Surely an 18" elip goes deep enough, but on huge targets only would it be a specialist.

Re: New Coiltek 18" mono
Gday
I have used the minelab 18" round dd coil, and although an excellent coil it was very heavy, I have not tried the 18" minelab mono but like all the commander coils I think it would be a good coil but would be very heavy compared with the nuggetfinder and coiltek.
The use of an 18" mono is not only for the depth, but as I like to spend a bit of time patch hunting as well the ground coverage is an advantage as well, but of course the coil has to be light weight enough to lug about for hours on end, two or three hundred grams may not seem like a lot but after a few hours it will.
I have never had much success with eliptical coils and having had all types now dont bother with them, the one coil that I think may be worth a trial though is the minelab 14x10 (think thats the size?)semi eliptical commander mono coil, not a particularly light weight coil but the commanders work well on the 4500, I have been using the 11 commander mono and found it to be very good.
I would particularly like to know if someone who has used the coiltek 18" mono and the nuggetfinder 18" mono on the 4500 have found any differences to the stability as it could be that some of the aftermarket coils are causing a few of the issues that users are having with their machines.
Thanks for any info

Re: New Coiltek 18" mono
Stayyer, the new Goldstalker range were developed for the 4000/4500 and they still work great with the earlier model Minelabs. I use the 18x12 on my GP3000 and the 18" round on my SD2000, both work very well and are easy to swing due to the light weight, dont need a bungee with them. Certainly worth considering these coils. mallee00 and the mutt
