Judging by the comments above I must have got a lemon. It worked for about a year but now it wont even put a ripple on the water in it.

While i like pounding up my gold and offing it to a refiner i do like my aldi cleaner that is about 7 years old. It cleans nuggets to a level that is just right for selling them to collectors. Acid leaves nuggets with a terrible look and most collectors like a light iron stain/minor dirt and quartz in nooks etc....and that's what the ultrasonic cleaner gives you.

As an Instrument technician in the RAAF for twenty years we used ultrasonic cleaners regularly. They are great so long as you use the correct power, cleaning fluid and frequency for the type of cleaning that you are doing.
If you are cleaning jewellery then keep your rubies, emeralds and opals away from ultrasonic cleaners.

From what you're saying from the above post Adrian I'm not supposed to leave it full of water next to my bench grinder and dipping bits of metal in it to cool them when they get a bit hot from grinding, likewise when I'm welding small pieces so that i don't have to walk all the way to the tap in the backyard.

Ummmmmm. I gotta fink abart vat. Let's see, ut's just a can of worta right?  Weeeel if tha taps a real long way away and the cleaner is full of worta Laughing
I know that we used ta use freon in our big cleaner and I used shellite on one occasion, so maybe dippin bits of red hot metal in that particalar wun would ov been a bit iffy. Laughing

Try 3 parts water, 1 part white vinegar, washing concentrate 1 teaspoon, salt 1 teaspoon. when finished soak in clean water with a teaspoon of baking soda.

Haven't tried it with gold yet, but works great with bullet shells! Rolling Eyes

Adrian I wish I had rubies, emeralds, to clean, I only use it to clean chains and bracelets.

I have a nice little combined ionic and steam cleaner for jewellery items although I have not been able to obtain the ionic cleaning solution for a while now. The steam cleaner works ok on smallish nuggs and those high pressure water cleaner/blasters that you can get from Bunnings work great on large rocks and I see no reason why they would not work well on the giant nuggety rocks that all yez pros in WA are finding all the time. Just watch out that yer don't blast the gold away.Very Happy Very Happy
