Here is a small sample  of the gold that you can miss by using discrimination at the beach..Or anywhere else. These items all give an iron readout and tone from my Gold bug Pro, Sov XS, XLT, SST, Safari.
I had the Pro set to signal small iron at 28 which is approx equiv to +2 on the SST
The large cross is 3.8g of 9K gold and is hollow, 5cm x 3cm. The rings are 9k & 14K.

These give tones from the SST from high iron/foil through to high silver and range from 9k to 22k and plat. The 22k squeals like a banshee and plat gives a medium low tone.

Adrian,
A nice collection there. It sure shows how important it is to dig all signals on the beach.
I picked up a tiny stud ear ring yesterday where the signal was all over the place. It turned out to be gold plated, sterling silver with a s/s pin and to top it off, there was a piece of foil beside it.

That is a very nice collection. We don't do beach or coin hunting any more. We are too far from any good producing beaches and have worked out most old sites but your collection has got my coin finger itchy again.

Cheers, Jim

Yes it is the thought of pinging a nice ring or three that keeps me interested.
Here are a few others that I have recovered.
These are mainly sil.
I have approx the same amount again.

And a few more items.

I have several thousand other items of jewellery and coins and truck loads of other stuff that I have lost count of but still have in boxes in the shed and each item represents a hole dug in the ground and sand and that in turn represents a lot of bending down and standing up and sore knees and back aches and fun and enjoyment and meeting many people and hours and hours of talking to total strangers about metal detecting the beaches and gold fields.

The interesting thing is that a large majority of the stuff I have found has been found with ordinary VLF/TRs from fisher and bounty Hunter My Sov XS and Infinium have scored well at the beach.

Even though I have some high tech tectas including my beloved almost high tech Infinium; My Sov, LST and GS15000 are my favorites because I have absolute faith in their ability to find good stuff. It is as though targets materialise beneath the coils like magic. I feel as though I am tuned in to those tectas.

Of course there are the days and months that you might not find anything and you begin to think that there is something wrong with the detector or you have lost the touch or cleaned the place out or need a better machine. I reckon we have all felt like that at times and usually all you need is a break and to do something else for a while, do a re-fresh and start again........And for me it is amazing how often a re fresh involves getting another tecta. Very Happy Rolling Eyes
