Wedderburn is a small farming community located in the Loddon Shire in central Victoria. It is 75 kilometres north-west of Bendigo, 33 kilometres south-east of Charlton (another RVFT) and 214 kilometres north-west of Melbourne on the Calder Highway.


Gold was first discovered in the region in 1852 and 80% of all major gold nuggets found in the world are said to come from within a 40 kilometres radius of Wedderburn. Prospecting is still popular and detectors are available to hire if you are keen to try your luck while in town.


Wedderburn has many historical buildings including the hotel dating from 1855 and the museum/general store. Local events include the annual Minelab Wedderburn Detector Jamboree held in March, the Victorian Labour Day Long Weekend, the Historical Engines and Machinery Rally in September, and the Christmas Tree Festival in December.


You can see an operating eucalyptus stew pot at the Hard Hill Historic Tourist Reserve that also has BBQs, a picnic area, toilet facilities, on/off road camping and short and long term parking (24 to 96 hours) is available with power. Other nearby attractions include Mt Korong Scenic Reserve, Nardoo Creek Walking Track, Skinners Flat, The Granites (Mount Egbert) and Wychitella Forest Park.

But if you don't freecamp or dislike camping at Hard Hill then it is the only place in town for your van, the amenities are good and you are within walking distance of town.

Make that "wading distance", judging by recent news footage!
