Golden Ants
Nicely done Dave
There was a couple in Leonora years ago that made Golden Ants. They fashioned the body and head from one piece of plated copper wire in the shape of a figure 8 the ends becoming the antennas. They would then glue 2 subgrammers in place with epoxy to make up the head and body. From memory three pieces of wire were used to make the legs and feet (not sure wether these were wound or epoxyed to it)They would then epoxy it to a nice piece of quartz and put it in a gift box.I thought at the time what a brillant way to add value to our undervalued gold.Perhaps one of our members has one or a picture of one.
Cheers Dig

Jewellery Making......
davsgold wrote:My first attempt at making a piece of jewellery, this nice pendant shaped nugget weighing 3.6grams was detected during this years WA trip.
I have had all the tools and gear for a couple of years now and decided to give it a go.
The end result turned out Ok, anyhow Veronica is very happy with it
cheers dave
************* Just a suggestion Cobber: Put a sawcut down through the centre of the "bale", then gently prise the two halves apart (in this case between 1 & 2 mm.........This will give security ( the bales wear out sliding along the chain......so having 2 gives one as a backup.......very important with larger nuggets or sentimental nuggets !
Cheers.

Re: zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Thats a good tip Sandy. I was forever 'thickening up' the bale on my 5 grammer. What I've done now is used some very fine fishing line and tied the nugget in place on the chain so it cant move and wear!

******Hi GM.....The problem there is that the nugget can work it's way to "off-centre" and looks a bit odd.
Be lucky.
