Re: Which drone to buy
Hi Jen,
I have a Mavic too, really nice bit of gear! My wife bought it for me for Chrissy to keep me occupied untill I can go detecting again. 12months of severe tennis elbow is not cool
Anyway, apparently the best evasive action when birds attack is go up. The drone can climb at up to 10m per second, birds can't, so go up and get out of there real quick. Also activate sports mode so you get a ground speed of about 60kph. You need to activate multiple flight modes in the app.
Look after it, you really don't want to have to send it back for repairs. DJI customer service and repair department leaves a lot to be desired
Cheers Mick

Re: Which drone to buy
So here we are learning all about this drone
When we thought, lets take it out of beginners mode.
All was going really well, so easy to fly, but for some reason
All of a sudden we heard the branches in the tree making a horrible noise as mikes drone made contact with the tree branches and down went the drone onto the rock hard ground
Yep it was rocks. And the poor drone was wounded
Its back leg and motor were very wounded, the props all needed re-placing. The camera was flopping around loose. oh dear, not good
What to do? Only one thing to do.
Try to fix it.
So tony and mike got on the net reading up on how to fix it.
Tony found a few utube videos.
So with that they got busy.
They worked what parts they needed
They needed a back motor, but came compelete With the back leg, props, and a new gimbal bracket mount, as they didn't believe the camera was broken, just the gimbal bracket mount
Well they said if they needed a new camera they could get it later.
I found a place in Melbourne that sold the parts
Ordered on Thursday night, was here at the post office Monday. Wow!
Fingers crossed that was the only parts they needed
So off they went to work on it.
A very delicate operation it was, but with the help of utube videos, and much patience & perseverance
They succeeded in repairing the drone, only took a couple of hours.
Now to see if it would fly again.
Nope it said it had an obstacle 6 meters in front of it.
Even though there wasn't any thing in front of it
So back to the internet for help
Tony said he read it needs to be re- calibrated
Anyway with Tony's help. Mike has his drone up and flying again
Thankyou Tony
Its as Good as new again
Until the next mishape

Re: Which drone to buy
Hi Jen,
Elbow is slowly on the mend, but the damn thing can't mend soon enough. Easter coming up, the weather is getting good, my easter trips are normally good to me, but sadly no swinging this easter. Might have to try that unco left arm again and do all digging with left hand only and only use a small coil so the holes don't end up big/deep. Argh!!!
Need to mount a few long spikes on top of the drone, that'll keep em at bay!
Good work on the repair! No stuffing about and no receiving someone elses old drone with intermittent faults!
Cheers Mick

Hi ozgold
Well that was different
I can't imagine me in that tub,
i would need a bubble bath afterwards
Think i will stick to just letting the drone do the flying.
Thanks for the link. It was interesting.

Easter is coming around very fast, i hope you can get out for some detecting time
Sounds like a plan, using a smaller coil.
Tony has been playing with sports mode, WOW! Can that little drone fly.
He says his ready for the next encounter with a eagle, which he hopes wont happen again.
But is prepared to send the drone straight up, Then quick flight back to base.
He showed us his drone, has a few deep scratches in it from the eagles claws. We are amazed it didnt come off a lot worse.
He also showed us the video, the eagle attacked it 3 times, but he didnt realize it was an eagle straight away, once he did, it was too late, so he has now set the gimbal up another 30' so he can get a view of the surroundings a bit more.
I think its funny
It was just a matter of when it was going to happen, now i wonder who's drone crashes next time
Yes fixing their own drones is the way to go.
Fiddly but rewarding.
