Fisher 551-D
Picked up an old Fisher 551-D today and with a bit of a scrub up it is looking and working like a newie.
Brings back some memories from long long ago... I still have my 553-D from back in the 70s and working perfectly.
People tend to forget how well these older detectors actually work and this one is no exception.
Nice clear smooth threshold, Tr Disc mode and GB all metal mode and runs at 4.5khz.
Ground balance has good range and the disc mode when set to approx 1, smoothes out my back yard ground noise just fine and finds all of my test patch targets no probs. Very little EMI interference noise in the audio.
About the only thing that this detector needs is to be a bit lighter.

Re: Fisher 551-D
Yeah wayne.
Whoever owned this tecta looked after it fairly well. The coil was wrapped in veeery old and knocked about masking tape and the stem and box are spotless.
Once the tape was scrubbed off and the box and stem given a dust off she looks as good as new and runs perfectly.
