After the Rains...Sierra flatty
We are finally getting some nice weather here in the Sierras of California. We have had on and off rain since December of last year which has reduced my hunting time considerably. Not only that the roads are slippery and I would risk getting stuck or worse sliding down into a creek or ravine. Took the 4500 out with my Evo coil for a nice short 4 hour hunt and worked some placer along a creek....dug about 32 pieces of iron trash and bullets when finally the yellow glimmer of gold showed itself to me...a nice little flat pie

Cal
I was in California and Nevada with the family in September and the place was in drought with fires closing areas. Sounds like the weather has done a 360 big time. Loved my time there especially Yosemite and Death Valley. Nice piece and hopefully the rain will bring some new ground to life.

Thanks fellas,
GemQ,
Glad you enjoyed California and Yosemite....as a matter of fact I live just outside of Yosemite...and hunt the lower Sierras. We finally got the rains we desperately needed..cant say just yet we are out of drought, but a few more years of good rain and snow pack will do us some good. As far as fire, its pretty common...California is known for fires, quakes, mudslides....and a lots of fruits and nuts...primarily in san francisco .

WomBat,
It came in at .99 grams after the dust was cleaned off....not a biggie but still nice.

Re: After the Rains...Sierra flatty
Hi California,
Nice looking bit of gold there.
Just wondering what is the purity of the gold over your way ?
In Victoria where I am the gold is around 95% pure and in Western Australia its around 85% pure.
(And yes, I know it varies from place to place but these are my average numbers)
Cheers
Mark.

Re: After the Rains...Sierra flatty
Hi Mark,
I Have one of those electronic gold testers and periodically test some of my nuggets from various sites. So far I have found gold nuggets that are running at 18 Karats or 75% purity, highest was around 95% which actually surprised me. But in the States..regardless of purity you will get minimum spot for all your nuggets and much more for larger ones
if you chose to sell some of the gold you find.

Nice little piece there California.
I've been away for 2 weeks and a little disappointed with the very few posts that have been written up, maybe it's been too hot out there.
Good luck with the wet conditions.
Regards Axtyr.

Thanks Axtyr,
Yup sure would like to see more posts....but like you said heat could be a factor. Our rains finally stopped and I am looking forward to hitting the old patches with my new Detech 15 " spiral wound coil that should be arriving in a few days. I also got the Detech 8" DD round for the trashy areas...when I get a chance to use the large 15" spiral wound I will post the results.
