Distinguishing a Creek from a Gully in high country

I like to think I am gaining some experience as I go in this hobby, so here is some advice from me. One thing I have grossly misunderstood since I started out prospecting Is where the gullies are in relation to the creek so I can't stress enough how important it is to identify where the creek cuts out at its headwaters and becomes gullies in high country. Doing research online is all well and good although getting out into the field and knowing when a creek runs out and becomes multiple gullies with the naked eye is one of the hardest and most crucial acts in prospecting because the area is bigger and you have to see it differently for what it is. Therefore If your able to walk around and perceive the open country for its physical appearance more accurately this could lead to more success.

So given what mad fish sorta said, your maybe sayen the difference between semi washed clean versus overburden??

Cheers, thanks for showing interest too. I guess my reasoning is not to come to terms with the ground types as such but it's more to ID watercourses for what they are. Some gullies have been ground sluiced beyond recognition right at the creeks headwaters where the gullies start to head up into the hills (if you didn't know the old timers had done this because it was a richer area then you would think the creek was that much longer)
