Is a dd running in mono as sensitive as a designated mono coil ?
I do have and run monos but just curious

It can be.??
When using a DD in mono, you regain some of the ground canceling ability built into the DD coil. In the right ground, this can be a plus....less feedback/swamping of the coil compared to a dedicated mono...yet more sensitive than using the coil in its dedicated DD mode. You'll notice the left hand side of most DD coils will now be live throughout its perimeter...not just the center axis when used as a DD..

And just to follow on from Narrawa's good info, when using a DD in mono mode you can also use discrimination.
I often use that setup when detecting around mine sites to pull the gold from inside the junky areas.
