To answer your question you need to understand the differences in the GPX series.They all introduced new classes of smooth timings ie;
4000-Sensitive smooth
4500-Enhance
5000-Fine gold
These enable smoother threshold in difficult soils allowing the targets to be recognised more easily and at better depths.The latter models also have increased sensitivity to smaller and specimen gold.
If you don't encounter these soil types (Benign) then you can expect full depth and smooth threshold from all the GPX models in Normal operation.

I'm a relic hunter.. and i hunt in high mineralized soil.. i want a machine more smootly possible for ear fainth signal more easy! Very Happy
