generator maintenance
Well after many hrs cursing my Honda blisters on both middle fingers from the rip cord, I finally decided to find out why it would not run for more than 2 secs.
Carby out jet checked all good plenty of fuel flowing in ok so why the F is it not running for more than 2-3 secs...... hmmmm my chainsaw use to have issues with the spark arrestor in the exhaust ill take of the exhaust and have a look. Starts geny no problem running ok has to be exhaust then looks inside out let looks clear attempts to blow thru exhaust ...blocked as, shine torch inside outlet ...what's that it looks like a clay plug ? screw driver in pop and cleared.
Wasp nest way inside exhaust happens I guess when you don't run it for a year, so if you have spark fuel and notice blow back from the carby checked for blocked exhaust.
Just for your info.

Re: generator maintenance
G'day freshwater,
Yes it is a real problem down here in the summer months, sometimes I have to clean ours out a couple of times a week. It is defiantly a trap for young players and it happens with the chainsaw and your lawn mowers too.
Cheers.
Mike.

Wasp nests can be a problem on caravan water tank overflow tubes too!! Nearly blew a tank once. Now cover the outlet with fly screen held in (not too tight) by a cable tie. Even get into gas heater outlets.

Re: generator maintenance
Also a problem with vents on Nissan Patrol main & sub fuel tanks.
A simple fix for this one was the plastic filters from pop up garden sprinklers fit very neatly over vent pipes.

Re: generator maintenance
Mud Wasps are a major problem in the Territory , any orifice small or large gets plugged in no time at all , twice I have had air con units fail due to dozens of nests on the blades ,fixed, now completely enclosed in mesh , covering openings with Petroleum Jelly is also effective ..cheers Mick
