Insect repellant
Hi all,
I am off to Far North Queensland very shortly and wondering what would be the best insect repellent there is. They have a lot of Genghi Fever right now up there and the blasted mossies thinking I am a feeding station, which could be a bit of a worry for me. They really go for me and some of the stuff you can get here in Tassie doesn't last for very long , especially if one gets into a bit of water. The bites just drive me nuts. Any suggestions of a good product will be much appreciated.
Thanks and cheers
Ray

Hi Ray , I'm in the Territory and find the Bushman's " heavy duty " best for keeping mozzies and midge's at bay , its expensive but the only one we use ..cheers Mick

Ray,
I've found Nature's Botanical products work well, and they're a "natural" deterrent :

Repellant
Bushmans is very good
But it has Deet which is poison
I use a mix of
50% Dettol & 50% baby oil
Works well

Re: Insect repellant
Hi, if you use bushmans, do not get it on your headphones ect. It is not kind to plastics either. Also is poisonous.
we have been using natures botanical, is not real cheap but you only need a real small amount for it to work. Like you ray, both me and the wife are magnets to mozzies, and all small nasties and it really works well. And is also pleasant to use. TG

Thanks for your input
Hi all,
Thank you all who shared with me what product you use. I will get Natures Botanical or Bushmans. I hope I can buy it over the counter somewhere further up north. Thanks again and happy detecting.
Cheers Ray

Re: Insect repellant
Be careful with anything that has DEET in it.. Some people are allergic to it.
I forgot to mention the Natures Botanical Cream or Lotion, I brought that as well.

Marsh flies
Hello Joe,
It sounds like you coped it pretty hard out there.
I didn't thought of marsh flies. That Natural Botanical lotion would repel them too I hope. Used these mossie coils before, but the stuff drifts off so easily and I wasn't very impressed with it.
Cheers

I wish
Hello Joe,
I wish I had excess to private property to detect. This is going to be my first trip up north, so I have no idea where to go to. I am trying to go to these cattle station around Forsyth which are listed on one of the forum's sites. After that it's up to the Palmer fields. I also got print outs from gazetted gold fossicking areas around Clermont. As I make my way slowly up north I am going to try some fields in NSW. As I also collect Gem stones and mineral specimen I hope to find some thing of interest at some of them places. The scenery and the old townships make the trip worth the while just on their own for sure.
Cheers

Re natures own
I've used it for years and personally think nothing comes close on flies ,but it's only just on mossies

Re: Insect repellant
Hello Cougarcans,
Thanks for your input. You are saying that the stuff just keeps the mossies away. Is that here or up north? I am a bit concerned using the Bushman repellent as most people mentioned the DEET poison in it.
Cheers

Re repellant
Sorry ray for taking so long,I've only used it around here ,it only just works on mossies around inglewood etc.but is the best bar none for keeping flies away and doesn't sweat off like most do ,a tub lasts ages.i know what you're saying about the deet ,when I was smoking I had some on my hands when I pulled a pack of smokes out of my pocket and it took the color off the packet, can't be good I thought.

Re: Insect repellant
Thanks Cougarcans,
I had no trouble with mossies around Inglewood or in other parts of the nearby locations. I panned a bit in Tuena, not a single mossie there, it was most likely to cold for them. See how it goes in Sofala tomorrow, freezing here in Bathurst too.I let you know how thick the mossies are up north if I remember by than.
Cheers
