Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
Had a few frustrating days with leadshot and tiny metal fragments (I used to think I was doing the environment a favour taking home all my lead, but man, bullets and the like are a drop in the ocean compared to the leadshot out here - I never realised).
Would be interested in views on settings to minimise this without of course losing the 0.2, 0.3g gold at 'depth'. Yeah, I'm getting a bit of a handle on audio recognition, but still interested in owner's views on dumbing this IMO annoying DNA - if I wanted a 2300, I would have bought one - at least it has a smaller coil to pinpoint the suckers.

l was wondering how the 2300 would perform with a 14 inch coil.Would be verly interesting.l read in the gold and treasure magazine a few months back that woody modded a 2300 with a 14 inch coil and he didn't hear back from the owner. So he gathered he must have been happy with its performance.

Re: Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
Funny you mention that. Funny because the other night I had a dream. In my dream I woke up and felt all these weird things around me in the bed. As I felt about with my hands I grabbed handfuls of them and looked. My hands were full of dug up lead shot I had found with the 7000. The bed had hundreds of them lying around me. Serious, I dreamt about lead shot! When I actually did wake I told the misses about it, she cracked up.
Im getting so sick of lead shot that now if it moves in the first scrape of loamy topsoil and mulch and isn't in the dirt or clay beneath needing to be actually dug out I leave it. After so many years swinging I have found very little gold in loamy loose topsoil or mulch. A few little bits but when I compare that to how much it has come to and how much time I wasted chasing them Id prefer to keep moving. If I scaped away a good signal id check it out, maybe a surface specie, but those little pingers, nah, they can stay where they are.
Nope, don't know how to get rid of them without killing the sens.

Yep that's one of the reasons l got rid of my 2300.Got fed up digging shot. And now apparently the 7000 picks the little devils up as well.No thankyou minelab .You've got to ask yourself is digging shot all day long really worth the time and effort?.l'll happily stick to my trusty 4500 and not dig shot all day long.

Re: Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
I have tried to 'dumb it down', but the Zed still tells you something is under the coil.
General/Difficult is still ultra sensitive on ANY targets. miniscule or huge.
High Yield/Difficult way too sensitive for me, I use it to pinpoint only.
Part and parcel of detecting. I look at it as a positive, no matter how frustrating, that at least the area still has targets not detector holes everywhere.
I am happy to pick up small sub grammers in between larger pieces.

Re: Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
Hopefully the big coil wont be quite so sensitive.
Watching the Zed mission video, I think Tremain says or at least infers the time would be better spent looking for big pieces with a 5k rather than fluffing around with little specs.
When one considers the time in remote areas is often very limited either by supplies or weather, the time would be better spent seeking larger gold if it's just a matter of covering productive ground.
There's the point too that even if it is gold and not lead, is the gold worth the extraction time, eg http://www.trinityau.com/gpz-7000.html That's a lot of messing around for $15, sure if you're a hobbiest out for a relaxing Sunday stroll with your machine, a very fun pass time.
There are places where the old diggers didn't live on bunny stew, and there's very little shot, plus where the gold is real nuggetty, as the fluff has been washed away. Or spots where you've dug a few deep solid bits you don't mind digging a bit of lead in these spots if a good bit was just out of reach. These are the places to seek out with the 7k otherwise the GPX still has it's place up there with the very best.
Perhaps time behind the screen will help in distinguishing which responses to walk away from, and Canned Heat I like your idea of moving on if it's superficial, sure it could be a crumb of gold, but who knows that time you didn't spend fluffing around with crumbs could mean a multi-grammer at the end of the day.
Cheers

Re: Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
Does anyone actually know what size coils codan plans to release for the 7000.l would have thought with 10 million spent on research and development that at least 3 coils would be available.A smaller coil 8 inches would have helped with the weight issues and boosted sales .And off course an 18 inch coil for deeper targets.

Re: Dumbing down 2300 DNA in this thing
For me, and those little kickers (kick em away and move on) nope. You gotta know when and where to draw the line. An hour and a half of my days detecting time recovering a dozen bits of lead shot and maybe if im lucky a 3$ bit of gold, waste of good time.alchemist wrote:
