Fantastic news about the GPZ 7000
40% deeper on Victoria's highly mineralised soils. Unbelievable! Thank you Bruce, from the bottom of my heart.
Ps. Bruce, I've written a letter to Tony Abbott to see about getting you a knighthood.
The inscription on the back will read thus-
"For services to Victorian Detectorists, by finally beating the worst mineralised soils in the world"
Arise Sir Bruce, Tamer of Victoria's Iron Carpet.
This will be you one day Bruce, and once again, thank you!

Re: Fantastic news about the GPZ 7000
I don't want to burst your bubble Shiraz, but the devil will be in the detail. The blurb doesn't say 40% deeper in the worst conditions, just standard conditions.
And is that 40% better than the GPX5000 with its standard 11 inch DD, or a 14 inch DD, or 14 inch mono for that matter ? IE are they comparing apples with apples ?
By my calculations, you will get roughly 20% more depth just by going from an 11 inch to a 14 inch round coil ! Is it going to go as deep as a 5000 with say a 20 inch mono ?
Minelab need to be a little more specific about this claim / statement !
A fixed 14 inch round coil is going to be a pain in the arse for many users. There are plenty of scrubby / silver grass areas just here in Victoria where you can barely use an 11 inch round, and conversely, who is going to want to explore new areas with only a 14 inch coil ? Give me a 17x11 or 24x12 for exploring !
I really hope Minelab give us some options with this, and longer shafts as well, but I won't hold my breath !
Cheers,
Rick

It's not the weight of the detector I'm worried about it's the depth of the bloody holes we will have to dig.

Fantastic news gpz7000
Standard conditions, mmmm. Australian goldfields standard conditions, mmmm again .Don't you reckon that in those standard conditions there are bits of gold just out of reach of the current tech. This is new tech don't forget, old calculations regarding coil size, settings, type of ground etc may well be out the window with regards to this new tech.Geez even a few inches extra depth in some locations might be enough, let alone 40%.Anyway as soon as they are available I'm getting one

It's without question that we all want to dig that big hole with a big chunk of yellow at the bottom. But realistically it's that 12 to 24 inch layer that I reckon will produce a new level of detecting being the ones the small coils didn't reach and the ones the big coils weren't sensitive enough to hear, the larger deeper bits will just be a massive bonus

Spot on GB. Hopefully it will start finding the 1 to 5 grammers at depth, with the same frequency as the SDC on .01's and tiny birdshot at shallow depths.

Here's a wireless Turkish model. The Turks make some beauties.

Are you sure that is a wireless model, Shiraz? I do believe it has a socket you can plug things in to, and also, the environment and activities look a little Greek to me.shiraz wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1422579428&v=MPmxL-Lpb70&feature=player_detailpage&x-yt-cl=85114404

25m of 6mm shock cord, a bag full of quick connect hooks and olive clips for under $30 = enough for 10 bungie cords. with heaps of cord left over.
