Hi Wombat

I think he was saying that if you had looked under Gold and Its Properties Section, you would have found your answer there (about halfway down)

Thank again

Weighing of gold in a specimen Empty Gold in Quartz calculation

Post  goldnugget Sat May 29, 2010 9:37 pm

Hi guys,
Not to be picky Weighing of gold in a specimen Icon_rolleyes , but for those interested in a bit more accuracy (if I have my figures right!) I calculated the gold in this example to be 45.25 gms (using pure S.G's.) This was done with Chris Hakes 'stab in the dark' method. The difference is only a bit over 3.3 gms but for some people a 7.3% difference (from the lower weight) may be significant.

Cheers,
Rick.

Hi im new to the site but i think this is what you want
G (gold) = (d x N x (1 - q/n)) / (d - q)

G = Weight of gold (grams)
d = Density of gold (approx. 19 gm/cubic cm)
N = Weight of nugget in air (grams)
q = Density of quartz (approx. 2.6 gm/cubic cm)
n = Density of nugget ( gm/cubic cm)

Density = (weight of nugget in air) / (weight in air) - (weight in
water)

Wombat be careful, pays to check weight of quartz if there is similar material around find as i've known it to vary from 2.4t/m3 to 3.0t/m3plus depending on ferrous and metallic type material with quartz
