4WD crank batteries.
Hi Folks,
Have any forum members had any problems with Century Ultra Hi Performance Overlander N70ZZL4WD4WD batteries?
I am on my third one at this point in time, all three have died in less than two years. They are crank batteries in my 100 series Land cruiser diesel; the electrics and charging have been checked by an auto electrician and are within spec.
The right hand battery is connected to the crank battery via a Redarc Smart Start smart solenoid.
Any clues.
Cheers, AUoptimist

Re: 4WD crank batteries.
To get higher cranking amps thinner plate and more plates are used. This arrangement is good if you need the amps to kick over the motor but the material used tend to fall off the larger area of plates and sink to the bottom of the battery. When this happens the build up shorts out the plates. If the battery is shaken by rough tracks this also causes more deposits to accumulate. So my advise look at the 20hr amp rating and beware of largest cold cranking amps.
