The old SD2200 can still pull the little bits.... got three bits in a couple of hours this morning. The smallest an amazing 0.28 grms from under about 3/4" of cemented sandstone on bedrock. The others 0.56 and 1.22 grams. The detector is running off a regulated 12v L-I battery and regulated to run at 7.3 volts.

Using a Coilek 10" elipical DD with the soil switch set to 'Shallow' and just scraping the coil slowly over the creek bed and the shallow traps sites on the bedrock whilst listening very carefully for the tiny soft signals.

There is so much old rusting metal that it was necessary to just run the iron discrinator and ignore all the blanking signals.... otherwise you would just dig junk continously. Tried the mono but just a nightmare of noise.

I have got smaller bits in the eighties with an A2B and a 4.5" coil - but not much.

Wouldn't want to do it for a living but its a lot of fun being retired and having fun.

Hi John i had a 2200 from its release up until the 3500 was released. Great machine for depth but it could not beat moderately hot ground although i could still pick good signals out through the chatter with practice. I found some small nuggets with it but it was better on 4 gram and up sized nuggets at depth.

Now i have a 4500 i have ran it over spots that i found small gold at with the 2200. With an 8 inch mono the 4500 is deadly on small gold in cracks, crevices and small mill holes in bedrock and creek beds. If you get a chance run a 4500 with an ML 8 inch mono over your spot. The coil will be small enough to detect gold between pieces of iron rubbish.
