G'day
Any news of a release date for the new Garrett machine? I'm keen to get a squiz at one before I lash out on a new detector
Cheers

Re: New Garret release date?
I have read a few test on the ATX in the USA (& Canada ) but still nothing specific to gold field work and iron mineralisation handling capability.
One comment indicated that the ATX could handle Moderate iron minerals.
The tests carried out in Australia have so far told us nothing usefull about this new detector and Certainly not enough to make me want to rush out and buy one.

Re: New Garret release date?
Yeah I have already seen that vid a while back. Tells me nothing.
Had a look at Toysandthings detector price lists and they could possibly kill all sales of the Infinium and most other Garrett detectors in Australia.
Discounting the ATX before we even know if it is any good is not a good sign. Does that mean that if it proves to be good then the price will go through the roof? Or does it mean that stocks have been ordered and the tector is a dud and dealers are hoping to cut their losses now to avoid being stuck with a truck load of duds.
So far some US tests indicate that the detector is good at the beach, where it gets good depth and can find some gold chains and that indicates sensitivity to small gold...... It could also indicate the possibility of instability in extreme iron mineralisation.
Just tossing some thoughts around, not necessarily what I concider to be solid facts.

Re: New Garret release date?
Will be nice when we get an independent [not dealer] review here in Aust.
It would be silly to throw the hard earned in before.

Re: New Garret release date?
Has no-one done a test on it in Australia yet.
I thought if it was good, that would of been done already.
And posted for all to know with cons/pros

Obviously not, certainly not an independent test.XIV wrote:Has no-one done a test on it in Australia yet.

If it shined through the Garrett secretive tests surely they would have filmed, documented it and be screaming
from the rooftops with a promotion worldwide.

Re: New Garret release date?
I had heard that garret tested a new PI machine in oz that failed miserably, shortly before GMC was shut down, now tha atx is due for release but untill there is some proven tesing done here with good results it will not tempt me to buy,

Re: New Garret release date?
I heard the same thing,
GMC not happy with the marketing and promo's after
going thru similar with the finny so they gave him the flick.
Only hearsay mind you, and possibly the ramblings of a madman

Re: New Garret release date?
In this case I reckon no news is bad news.
Maybe the ATX is already good in Europe and the Sudan and France and England etc. So why waste time and money trying to make it work in Australia when demand elswhere may already be outstripping supply. We are an itty bitty market.

Re: New Garret release date?
all the same at the price there listed at, I think If I were to want something better than my finny I would go minelab 4000 to 5000 second hand for same price. australia is to small a market for garret to worry about.

Re: New Garret release date?
There are a lot of ifs and buts about the ATX at the moment but for myself if the detector is as hot on small gold as the vid suggsts it is and if it can handle extreme iron mineralisation and achieve the depth that a couple of the Yank tests demonstrate then The ATX will be a winner in the gold fields.
It is definately working better than other PIs on salt beaches as far as depth and stability and sensitivity is concerned.
Now I wonder if the ATX coils will work with the Infinium?
the ergonomics of the detector are impressive. It is Tough, rugged and can be compacted down without dismantling.
I hope it is as good as the hype indicates, not that it will make any difference to me because It is way out of my price range.

Re: New Garret release date?
What I was trying to get across was the if the testing was ok in Aust conditions surely they would be shouting it from the rooftops!

Re: New Garret release date?
That would be logical and if performance information is being withheld because things still need tweaking then the teaser video should never have been released until the detector was 100% ready for release. All that is happening now is that Garrett is once again loosing credibility by spouting off about a wonderfull new metal detector, showing a short video clip but refusing to demonstrate the machines capabilities or to answer any prospective buyer questions.
Write or wrong, that is how it appears.

Re: New Garret release date?
spot on Adrian, but sounds very similar to a previous campaign and PI machine from Garrett.
and I so wish i was wrong.

Re: New Garret release date?
The Infinium had rocky start but thanks to the R&D by Phil and the GMC this detector will now function very well anywhere on the planet, short of going into a lava pool, using both mono & DD coils,

Its out there, being delivered
They have arrived, sold out n being delivered.
Now taking preorders on next delivery in december.
From first impressions,
Its well made, and feels good.
Seems to work well.
testing in local park
showed it more sensitive then my infinium with an 8" mono.
1g nugget 8 inchs.
2g nugget 11 inchs
5c coin 13 inchs.
A bit of EMI n lots of junk.
needs testing in the goldfields tho
and direct comparison to other detectors.
Cheers.
Lee.
ps. Tested max sensitivity n zero null min threshold.
So u could turn up the threshold n listen to get
better depth.

Re: New Garret release date?
After using the ATX for the short time I had it for (30min) I could see that it was going to be disappointingRedfin wrote:spot on Adrian, but sounds very similar to a previous campaign and PI machine from Garrett.

And when I asked the dealer if we could take it down the back and perform some more conclusive tests he indicated that this would not be happening and when I was asking specific questions about the testing that he had performed in his test patch he never really answered.
He was acting like a politician and steering around my questions and then I got the vibe that I wasn't welcome any more.
So I'm suss on any of the claims that they are making, as if it performed like they say I recon that they would have just shown us and that would be that.
But instead they are trying to use marketing hype and misinformation and tactics like not supplying the mono coils for testing because they know they have woeful performance.

Wow, should of got better sales man
I would have happily taken it out back to a test patch to show of.
Simply strapping some cardboard to the coil protects it enough for demos.
it does work well.
U do need to play around with it for a little bit to get the hang of it.
At first it kept pinging on everything.
Had to check n check ground balance n instructions.
Had to play with the sensitivity and threshold.
But sensitivity at 9 seemed good n threshold down low.
But in mineralised ground in Nelligen it did work well.
Would have liked to set sensitivity to 7 or 8 n go
dig some stuff up but just kept raining.
Like all detectors, u do need to learn it a little.
For instance I tested a 3000 n a 5000 n hated them in one shop.
Of course I know they are good so could ignore my innitial
testing in the shop. The ATX testing in the shop also
was bad same for my infinium.
Same for many other detectors tho the VLF detectors
seem to function better in a shop then the PI's.
The ATX also didnt like my backyard, too much EMI I guess.
Seemed to work ok in my local park. But that was my first 30 mins.
Cheers.
Lee.
If ur having troubles with ur ATX, reduce the sensitivity and
change ur ground balance settings. Or check the freq adjust.
