Noob from eastern vic
Hi
My names cody
Im pretty sure the list of hobbies ive had a run at is getting longer than the ones i haven't tried.
This is my new one. I have full noise gold fever. Funnily enough i havnt actually found any gold.
What i did find was a rather large jar of river bed flaked mica.
It was awesome. If gold panning was this easy dunno why everyone one wasnt doing it.
Sore legs sore back sunburt rained on and a jar fulla fools gold.
And still waking around grinning like an *****.
Love the scrub. Ocean. Anything outside.
A fishing man first and foremost.
But 4wding, camping, hunting and general exploring are a big part of my general amusment based activites.
If anyone has any fishing questions id be happy to help.
Now im looking to invest in a detector.
Still havnt made up my mind witch one yet.
Still alot of reasearch to do. (Fun part)
Probally around the $1500 to $1800 mark. Should do it.
Seems like some really nice people here wnd i hope i can contribute one day.
This sites already helped alot.
Thanks all.
The river involved was lees creek near alister feildings campsite north of briagolong.

G'day Cody & welcome to the forum
Yes it appears you have got the fever all right, you need big doses of outdoor gold searching, this may or may not help with the fever but it will be fun.
Research plenty, and look where gold has been found in the past, as this will help you to know what kind of ground to be looking for gold on and around.
Also with getting a detector, ask plenty of questions and even hire one for a few weekends first that you think might suit you.
Good luck with your new hobby, and just as with fishing, patience and have fun is what will help.
cheers dave

Re: Noob from eastern vic
I grew up in the scrub in central Queensland.
I hate being inside. It freaks me out.
I run a good magnet thoroughly the ground and shes covered with in a few inches.
Shes pretty ferrous river sand.
Most of my work will be done between dargo and walhalla. If that's any help.
Been a working drilling and work over rigs for 15 odd years and still have pretty much no idea about geology.

Re: Noob from eastern vic
I actually wet a line yesterday for the first time in 3 years. Detecting & prospecting has taken the fishing time as I catch more
If you're looking at buying a detector there's plenty to choose from. But determine what you want to do & what your detecting environment is going to be. If you're likely to be around water & wanting an all round detector the Garrett AT Gold is a good one. If you're after something light & not getting wet the XP Deus is awesome. Of course you will have the Minelabs & whites & Fisher & Teknetics to consider

Welcome. Have you had a chance to view this link hat Adrian SS put up in the infiniium thread?
http://www.detectorprospector.com/gold-prospecting-guides/steve-guide-gold-nugget-detectors.htm
Check it out as some helpful info. If you haven't already. Something with a ground lock or easy way to ground balance would be helpful.
